Damn, feel like I'm posting an ad in the newspaper, but this community was always good to me and I gave it a few decent levels back in the day, so I figure why not call in a favor from an old friend?

Daft's the nick, but the real name is Ross. I'm just entering my senior year in a pretty decent acting program at uni/college and I've entered a contest to win a walk-on role for the fabulous Golden Globe-winning AMC show, Mad Men, which unless you've been living under an intergalactic rock, you've probably heard of (it's damn good too, check it out on Sunday nights if you can, and I don't watch much TV).

Now should you feel so inclined as to honor my little soapbox shout-out, you can vote for my entry once per day (every day, if you would!) until the September 6th deadline. The judges will have the final say, but the closer I am to the top 100 or so, the better chance I have of getting noticed by someone.

They do in fact broadcast Mad Men in Finland. A great thing is that it, along with a bunch of other HBO shows, is on a Yle (Finnish BBC equivalent) channel which means no commercials!

But seriously, I'm not expecting to win this, but as far as acting goes, you can't expect anything because you'll have to get used to disappointment pretty fast. In this case, I'm competing with 4,000 other people. In many regards, it's just a popularity contest. The website seems a bit buggy from time to time and, hell, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the candidates had their votes rigged.

But I also know the guy who is currently winning has just copied and pasted his ****ing headshot. He hasn't worked for this, he hasn't even followed the contest rules, and I would be highly surprised if the judges pick him. The rules say the judges will choose a winner from the top 20 voted semi-finalists (10 men, 10 women). But they also say people can be disqualified for various criteria. So even though I know there's no way in hell (unless it freezes over) that I will make it to the top 20 in the 100s of thousands of votes in just two weeks, I want to get as damn close as possible. If I get enough people involved, I could hit 1,000 today, if people helped me. I'm hoping for a snowball effect.

I know I have a better pic than almost all the people in the top 20. I also know there are people with just 50 votes that probably have a much better picture than me, more interesting/creative/professional etc. The world isn't fair, and this isn't a particularly well run contest. But
I'll be damned if that's going to stop me from the doing the best I can do. I'll never know, if I never try.

Haha, I have no doubt dude, and one of my other friends has already suggested the same, but that's just not on the cards. If I get anywhere near the top, it will be through sheer brute force and the support of a loyal support base, not cheating.

My school won the Victoria Secret college Pink collection vote a while back. But they probably realized that "Rochester Institute of Technology" isn't very sexy and decided against it.

We don't, actually. Seeing some cool shows with no commercials (and without them being subscription channels) is a nice perk, but overall Finnish TV does not compare to American TV. We do get some of your channels (and an assload of Euro ones) on cable and satellite, though, so subscribing does lead to better Finn TV!

What specifically? Cheating? I'm pretty sure the contest rules state they will shut down anyway who sets up automated voting clients. Plus, I'm just not going to do it.

Well, like I said further up, the judges will consider the top 20 (but honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they actually consider the top 50, I mean, could you imagine the guy in 3rd place with the cigar on network television? :S ) All I'm saying is, the closer to the top I get, the ever so slightly increased chance I may be considered in their pool of "semi-finalists." Yes, the odds are slim, but as Han Solo says
