Hit and friggen run!

I had to spend the night at the hospital last night for a sleep study, turns out I have a sleep apnea. So as I am leaving this morning at 6 AM I stop to get gas and pull into the Dunkin Donuts across the street. I am waiting in line and I hear these guys talking behind me saying oh that sucks! I listen some more and they are like yea that white one. So I quickly look out side and see a Maroon Silverado near my car. I look at them and say did they hit that car? they reply yea man is that yours? I go running out there the driver sees me and takes off as fast as he can.. I didn't get a license plate number either! :argh: :argh:

Here is the result

Turns out he was all over the parking lot, backed into a pole then drove right into my car... OF ALL THE CARS TO HIT....

There are security cameras out front and of course the manager is not in today so the police will have to come back... all I can hope for is that they catch his license plate number and nab this ass hole! Even though they will probably do nothing about it.

If they can catch it on the video, at the very least you can prove it wasn't your fault for insurance purposes. If they catch his plate, then you could charge him. I would. What a little ****head.

That guys a jerk. However it could always be worse.
2010-08-25, 1:21 PM #4
The police came and investigated, I had witnesses too, they knew I wasn't in the car if they catch him it will be 100% his fault. I am hoping that the camera caught the license plate

I took it to Tasca Lincoln Mercury today since I was going to have the door handles painted (I think some woman with big nails owned this car before me since the door handles had weird nail marks), I was dealing with the body shop and I showed him the damage, he said it will need a new bumper and a new tail light for sure and the trunk door will need to be re aligned. He has to wait for my insurance though to take a look at it so he can look behind the bumper to see what other damage is back there. I just hope it looks good when it's done. I don't want to see any weird gaps like one side bigger than the other on the trunk. This car was in PERFECT condition when I got it.. its a darn shame :smith:

That sucks.

But it's kind of an ugly car.

Dude, that's bull****. The body shop guys will try to rip you off, they're notorious *******s. Get a heat gun (or a strong blow dryer) and heat up the dent so it's pliable. Then push it out from the inside and it should pop back to shape. The tail light looks fine; so does the trunk. Order new chrome trim and she'll be fine.

Caveat: There may be more damage or more information that I don't have, but judging from the photos that you posted, a few hours and a little bit of paint and she'll be good as new. Definitely take it to more than one shop, though. Get multiple opinions and quotes.

I think Steven is being a bit too optimistic. That said, Steven's suggestions might give you a perfectly drivable car unless you really just want it completely back to normal.

So do the work yourself and pocket the insurance check. New computer for Andrew, prease.

They are doing him a favor. Let them jack up the estimate and take the check.

Sucks dude. My brother had something similar happen and since it was at night the video was terrible and it was impossible to get any details. All the cameras picked up were headlights moving around. Hopefully the place you were at has better cameras :(

It is a very nice car, that is why I would rather keep it looking new, its a 2004 and only has 37k miles on it

I know all about being involved in a hit and run and seeing your beauty get messed up. It hurts a lot (also the physical pain involved). Sorry dude, hope it works out.
2010-08-25, 8:40 PM #20
I dunno why someone called it ugly. I've always though the Lincoln LS is a beautiful car. Isn't it a V8?

Mine is a V-6, better fuel economy than the 8 and I don't need premium fuel.

Yeah, looking at the before shots, I'm pretty sure a hair dryer will return it to that state. Just kidding, of course.

A heat gun could easily pop that back out. All you have to do after that is put a little more heat to it and it'll form right back up. Minimal sanding and a new coat of paint, plus the chrome trim, and yes, it will look like it did before. This is not advanced calculus. It's really not that complicated.

2010-08-25, 9:45 PM #24
Just more complicated than replacing the broken pieces, that is.

Sure, but keep in mind you are agreeing with Steven who clearly didn't notice the broken tail light or the fact that the trunk door does need readjustment. Maybe the bumper shell can be fixed cheaply but since you both are missing obvious problems in the photo I'm certainly not willing to agree with an opinion you two have based on no first hand knowledge. Regardless, he probably can do most of the work and save quite a bit of money.

Meh, it's not the worst car ever, it just looks like an old-person car. :P

If we were talking about the Continental or Mark series Lincolns I'd agree with you but I've always thought of the LS as the American answer to BMW.

Great looking car btw Andrew. No worries it'll all work out for you. Let insurance take care of it and get it done right.
2010-08-26, 12:09 AM #30
Old person cars get some of the best gas mileage. I'm driving a 94 Buick Century (gold colored even) and I get around 27 mpg. Rides real smooth and has some get-up-and-go to it (V-6 in it).
obviously you've never been able to harness the power of cleavage...

That is exactly it, it handles like one too, very presice and does not lean into corners like a Town Car... love the ride...

Thanks, I am glad someone else agrees with insurance taking care of it ;)

This car has a tri-stage paint job... I am not sure I could paint it to match.. that was the other thing

I didn't read all the posts, but here's what I can say...

First, NEVER go to a dealership for repairs.. Parts or maintenance ONLY. (If insurance is paying for it, who cares, just make sure they use OEM parts.)

Secondly, a blow dryer will not fix THAT. Also, from the looks of it, your trunk may be slightly warped, but is indeed out of alignment. The right side gap is almost gone while the left side is huge.

Don't listen to Steven's awful advice. Your insurance will pay for the damage, take it to wherever, don't worry about the cost, and get it fixed right.

Also, don't do the work yourself and pocket the check. Most people would call that INSURANCE FRAUD.

Besides which, you may be able to make it look cosmetically good as new, but there could be frame damage, and is very likely damage that you won't be able to see. The dealer will repair it to a like new condition, which is what the insurance company will require anyway.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Lassev: I guess there was something captivating in savagery, because I liked it.

My first post was assuming his/other guys insurance wasn't going to pay for the damage. Further, he hadn't posted the "before" pictures, thus the caveat, though the bumper can be repaired.

Second post was a joke. I know it's insurance fraud.
2010-08-26, 9:05 AM #35
That's not insurance fraud. It would be fraud if he had bogus estimates to inflate the settlement. Now if he owes money on the car it could be that the lien holder will require the repairs to be done at a certified body shop but barring that there is generally nothing wrong with completing the repairs yourself, or even not at all.

The average joe isn't going to be able to repair THAT bumper with a blow dryer. I've done the blow dryer trick myself, it works wonders. But that crease in the plastic will always be visible, as well as the horrible paint damage. Both of which are not easy fixes.

Hm, maybe. It was just a suggestion. Like I said, I haven't looked at it in person. In the photo it doesn't look too bad.

And perhaps insurance law varies in different states. In CA, one can't do what I suggested earlier.

I'd say do it yourself but your trunk is out of alignment so if you want it done right go to the body shop.
