Well first, even a small chance of depth perception is huge. Second, the peripheral vision I have gained is also huge. Third, dude...if you were a chick, what would you go for..the straight-eyed guy or the one who looked like I did? It cost me 5 bucks! No-brainer.
And for ordinary practical purposes, in my line of work eye contact can be very important. I've asked someone a question and had the wrong person answer - because they each thought I was looking at them. It'll also stop the drunk *******'s comments, which I can deal with but they're still annoying.
