Star Wars in 3d about a year and a half away...

If anyone could do a meticulous post conversion into 3d that would be worth seeing, it's Lucas. I know half of the people here will immediately start crying about raped childhoods and how Lucas just wants more money, but I think this could be pretty cool if done right.

Not really sure how you do a 3D conversion but I'll probably see it.

Many of the movies we've seen released in 3d as of late have been converted in post production. The only two that weren't are Avatar and Resident Evil: Afterlife. Knowing Lucas, I assume they'll probably use a lot of digital elements replacing original objects to help with the effect.

3D conversion of 2D movies has been around for a while now, it's just taken time to perfect the technique and for the idea to catch on with the public. I can remember going to see Stargate in 3D over 10 years ago.

Personally, however, Star Wars or not, I'm not a huge fan of 3D. If I have a choice, I generally choose the 2D showings.

I really just hope he doesn't throw in new gratuitous CG crap.

Lucas did rape my childhood.... he didn't even tickle my ear....

Anyway, I will go Blu-ray and that's probably about as far as I'm going to go.
obviously you've never been able to harness the power of cleavage...

In theory, it should be cool.

But in reality, when this comes out, there will be CGI Gungans in the bar scene in ANH, Greedo will get blown away by a second shooter on the grassy knoll, and Mark Hamil will be completely erased from existence and blue screen jobs from Robert Pattinson will be pasted over the whole movie as the new Luke.

I find 3D distracting and dim.

I can't watch 3D movies because I have **** eyes, and I feel bad about asking people to see the 2D versions with me.

Don't. I would go with you.

It doesn't matter what technology is used because it's Star Wars. We'll all go see it & then half of us will enjoy it & the other half will complain about it for some reason that no one really gives a **** about (probably still secretly enjoying it & maybe even masturbating to it).

I personally like watching movies in 3D. I enjoyed watching Avatar despite the weak storyline. I'll be the first in line to watch Star Wars on the big screen each time that Lucas converts it to the latest technology (gimmick or not) because I enjoy the movies. I'd even pay to go see it in black & white.

3D is arbitrary and unnoticeable until it distracts me from the movie, at which point you forgot what film making is and its unlikely I'm going to be engaged.

To be honest I hate 3D. Its just a way to make a movie a pain in the ass; however, I cannot believe that no one else is, to use the correct words, "uber excited!!!"

I mean anything having to do with the original trilogy at this point, I'm super excited, and even though I sometimes cry when I think about them "dubbing" Vader, "Editing" Han, and "****ING UP" Boba Fett, this is going to be awesome no matter what version they use.

I mean at the very least, were guaranteed a good movie in theaters FOR ONCE!

P.S.- OK, I forgot, the beginning of Jedi has that horrid "Musical Number", which repulses me. Just close your eyes and think about Max Rebo.

I watched avatar in 3d and was not impressed. As with others, I found the 3d objects to be not solid enough, like everything was translucent. It was distracting and the glasses made the whole movie dim. I saw it later on my plasma at home in 2d and it was much better. I don't bother with 3d movies anymore, I go see the 2d versions.

I've often noticed this. I think it makes a difference depending on what angle you're looking at the screen. I noticed that turning my head made the effect worse. Sitting in the exact middle of the theater helps a lot (and is often impossible).

The one benefit for me is that by the time they get onto the OT Freddie will be old enough to come and see Star Wars on the big screen.

.“The Phantom Menace” will be the first out of the gate in early 2012, according to the report. Then, if box office warrants, “Attack of the Clones” in early 2013, “Revenge of the Sith” in early 2014, “A New Hope” in 2015, “Empire Strikes Back” in 2016 and “Return of the Jedi” in 2017.

I usually prefer normal (2D?) movies to 3D, but since I've never seen the Original Trilogy in theaters I'll probably go see it. Why can't they release the OT first, though? I really don't have an interest in seeing the prequels.

6 years of Star Wars in theaters. Man, Lucas is gonna make a killing on all the merchandise. Again.

I bet the 3d will really help Hayden's performance as Anakin.
2010-09-29, 10:23 AM #28
3.5 years until a Star Wars movie worth watching comes out in 3d.

I'll probably see all six, but I won't be happy until I see the last 3.

Also an interesting note - this is the first time a lot of people (including me) will get to see the OT on the big screen... Despite your feelings about 3d that make me kind of giddy. :D

Not if you saw the re-release in the 90's. Being like 6 or so, I was stoked then, I'm stoked now.

Yah, prequels ruined Star Wars as we know it and 3D is overrated bull**** that they now use as a tool to re-release the shame ****, and change you a dick-load for it.

This is like the 3rd time he has released the OT. How dose he do it?

I don't need 3D glasses to figure out what depth of field is. Thanks, but no thanks.

I agree with Mentat and Koobie on this. I really can't be bothered by anything Lucas has changed in the movies.

You never really hear of this with many other movies, either, where people will claim on or two little things just flat out ruin the movie. None of the stuff he changed is totally mind boggling. I really can't understand why people get so pissed about it.

Also, I'd like to add, I think 3d is pretty god damned cool and awesome if done properly. I don't care if I have to wear glasses or not. It's badass and neat. No, it doesn't make or break a movie, but it's cool to have it in there. It's fun. And that's what movies like Star Wars are about: Having fun watching a movie.

Well it should by your logic, seeing as how fake 3D sucks, because that's an entirely post-processed 3D, and taking into account that mine was done in real-time, I'd say ILMs 3D is going to be pretty damn good. ;)

I enjoy 3D, but I hate how it's being marketed. It's being flaunted like it's the main selling point of the movie, rather than the movie itself. It's rather annoying, and I blame Disney; whom I blame for pretty much any annoying movie fad. It's getting tiring to see the words "IN 3D" fly towards the screen like I'm supposed to be watching it in 3D, but I'm not. It's like they think people are stupid and don't know what 3D means.

That said, it doesn't really bother me that Lucas is making it 3D... I'll probably see it, just 'cause. :P
