I think some people should be required not to attend school. Quit wasting taxpayer money, I say.

I'm looking at you, imsoshort.

Ive heard that the government makes more money off it being illegal than if they were to use it as an industry like Amsterdam.:XD:

Really though, at the end of the day, Obamies "aint havin it". Whenever its brought they say to him, " It's the most asked question on the Internet!" Our president scoffs at the question, and then always says, in the greasiest of tones,"Well I don't know what that says about our Internet community!" and everyone laughs, as if the Internet is some obscure limbo hangout where all stoner weirdo's of the world congregate.

That being said I do not think that Obamies will let that happen on HIS watch. Yet who can tell, politicians often eat their own words.:hist101:

I think it's cooler to have the ability to enjoy myself without doing drugs. I know too many people who can't stand to be in the common non-drug social situation because they can't function sober.

Laaaammeeee.

Doing drugs doesn't make you cool, it doesn't make you not cool either, it's just a choice people make.
Thinking drugs makes you cool is ****ing retarded.
2010-11-02, 8:09 PM #55
100% agreed Tibby. I know plenty of dorks on pot, I also know a lot of people I would consider cool on it too.

I also found that the cool people don't care if you're on drugs or not, as long as you aren't a ponce about them doing it. It takes a real dork to think drugs make you cool or vice versa

The government in The Netherlands doesn't 'use it as an industry'. There's no tax on weed here. The shops are owned by individuals, they're not being run by the government.

Also, there are about 200 coffeeshops (that's how we call shops where weed is sold) in Amsterdam, the biggest city in the country. Compared to the much larger number of bars and cafés in Amsterdam, I'd hardly say it's an 'industry'.

Yes they do.

And there's only a few coffee shops over there, but there are quite a few coffee bars that encourage patrons to bring marijuana from elsewhere to their establishments.

(P.S. Disney is full of ****, Amsterdam is the happiest place in the world.)

There's no official weed tax. In book keeping, the official percentage of tax for weed is 0%. (Food and books are 6% and most other things 19%.) As a consumer you pay 0% tax. The shop pays an income tax, but any shop does that, only difference is the coffeeshops are in a higher scale than most.

You mean like regular cafés? No. Perhaps there are those that tolerate it, but none will 'encourage' it. And since tobacco smoking is now officially prohibited in restaurants, clubs and cafes the only public place where you are officially allowed to smoke weed is actually in the coffeeshop.

Ah, I see what you mean now.

And no, I forgot about the banning of tobacco, last time I was there smart shops were still open and you could smoke in bars (pubs), and some were known as coffee bars (some literally had that written somewhere on their entrance), that encouraged patrons to smoke weed while drinking beer there.

Oh, that.

Yeah, traditionally (and mostly in Amsterdam, not so much in the rest of the country) there were bars where people could smoke hash and drink alcohol, but they didn't sell the stuff themselves.

In the 90's they banned alcohol from coffeeshops (the places selling weed), and the 'coffee bars' / 'hash bars' were a bit of an exception because they're drinking places where weed isn't sold, but the smoking of it is tolerated. Since the police wasn't going to do anything about people smoking weed in those places, this continued until the smoking ban became effective in 2009.

There are still some places where you can smoke (outside of an official coffeeshop), but these are often places that typically ignore the smoking ban altogether and will also allow smoking tobacco.

It's a bit complicated really, especially because the typical Dutch way to smoke a joint is mixed with tobacco. Needless to say pure is the way to go, but that's how most people smoke it. (ugh)

Yeah, that's a tad unfortunate, it was fairly neat to order a nice meal and smoke joint at a couple of the pubs over there.

That irritated me to no end while over in Europe. Of all places in Amsterdam, where you have such quality stuff, and you just ruin any chance at getting the flavor since its getting killed by the tobacco. Why smoke great weed, just smoke some dirt weed that'll get you high if you are gonna mix with tobacco.

California is doing an opposite trend of the nation. Practically all Democrats this election. I suppose 8 years of Ahnold did that.

I totally agree. You do still get some of the flavour when you mix with tobacco, but it's a bad habit as far as I'm concerned. It's a shame really.

I have no idea why they do it though... is it because they're cheap? Is it because they don't like a strong high?

Another problem with mixing with tobacco is, if you don't smoke cigarettes but you like to smoke some weed from time to time, smoking tobacco joints will get you hooked on nicotine. As a result, people start smoking joints more and more often, thinking they need a joint, but in reality they just need a nicotine fix.

I've met so many guys claiming they're addicted to smoking joints. It's nonsense really. I always tell them to smoke pure, because you won't feel the need to smoke all the time if you do it without tobacco.

But somehow most people over here think that smoking pure is like taking hard drugs or something. If you tell them you smoke pure, they'll go 'OMG RLY?', as if you're doing heroin.

Bah.

Damn shame it didn't pass, really. but like SAJN says, it'll probably be a matter of time until it does.
