Isn't it illegal for companies to hold contests where people are forced to buy something to be entered into the contest?

if it were, then those mcdonald sticker contest things would be illegal, which they are not.

It probably depends on your local laws.

You can enter those by mail, too. For each self-addressed-stamped envelope you send them, they'll send you back one game piece.

Which is probably the only way to win the big prizes. My understanding is that the pieces needed for the grand prizes are sold on opposite sides of the country.

Free one today. + Just Cause 2 one I had already done. I'm at 9. I already have Beat Hazard, but I don't think I want to try for that achievement. Not a very fun game.

They also could probably weasel around it because not every round has all 4 requiring a game purchase. There's always at least one that can be done with a free demo or by doing something on Steam.
2010-12-14, 4:51 PM #52
12-13 didn't have a free option.

I'm not entirely sure if there was something you could gift for free, like Half-Life 2 :P

You only get entered if you complete 10 total achievements or more. Assuming 1 free achievement per section (which hasn't proven to have been true so far), that's a total of 7 free achievements. Not enough to get entered.

They had to go back and give everyone the acheivement about the games trailers. Nice. Saved me a lot of time - I was fixing to download the first one.

10 things done.

If I don't win I'm going to throw a big tantrum and complain about the general unfairness of life.

There's no way I'll hit 10 unless the last one has 2 games I own and a freebie.

Any chance I could get an invite to the Massassi group?

I also need friends. :(

Too late for that day's prize drawing, but I could still make 10 total with luck.
2010-12-18, 7:26 PM #59
I can't win. Not going to buy a game I don't want just to enter a chance to win either. :/

[Edit: I added you as a friend, Masq]

I added you masq!

I got 11 items.

All the free ones plus I bought like 2 cheap games (AAAaaaAAA and Shatter), plus I owned 1 or 2 of the games with achievements.

Not the best offer considering Just Cause 2 was on sale for $7.50 2 days ago.

Wow, it looks like almost the entire Steam store is on sale... including Fallout New Vegas, Just Cause 2 (again), Dead Rising 2, Deus Ex Pack, FEAR, Serious Sam stuff, and Civ V.

Well that kind of ruins my offer. I should probably just get the more notable games like Arkham for their deals instead of buying the whole package for all of the classics. Bah.

Well, it's only sale for like 15 today (if I remember correctly), so maybe it doesn't ruin your offer?

Is Just Cause worth $7.49?

Is Just Cause 2 worth $14.99?
2010-12-20, 4:15 PM #74
Skip the first. The second is pretty awesome though.
2010-12-20, 4:51 PM #75

Tempted to get F1 2010. I really like Dirt 2, didn't like GRID. I guess I probably shouldn't buy another onroad game.

I'll probably pull the trigger on Deus Ex, even though I already own the first one. And prolly get Lego Batman too.
