No, I said that a small number does not make it acceptable.

You were rationalizing it by suggesting that a small rate of incidence is acceptable.

The last time this came up. Jon made the same argument and you continued to ignore every point he made. Why do you think he asked "does Taser International write your paycheck?" it's because arguing with you on any subject regarding anything about the police is like arguing with a brick wall.

Where did I say that a small rate was acceptable? Quote me. Please. A direct quote, not what *you think* I said.

You know, a whole bunch of people die because people drink and drive. That's not acceptable, so maybe you should work on banning alcohol. And cars, while you're at it.

This thread is full of all sorts of jackassery.

Rob, how do you like the Sigma? I have a hard time trusting anything that's under $300 (other than a shotgun or a rimfire).

Also, I hear that there are some cheap plastic internals that are prone to stress damage. You might consider some replacement internals from Wolff. Some Meprolight sights may worth a peek as well. Some skateboard tape might serve well on the front strapping (under the trigger guard) to aid in gripping ability.

I didn't say you said that. You IMPLIED it, and when I asked the clarifying question asking if small numbers made it okay, you said I was wrong.

This is what happened:

You: tasers are fine when used correctly
Me: But they aren't always used correctly
You: They are used correctly most of the time?
Me: So that makes the abuse acceptable?
You: You're wrong!
Me: ??

I don't disagree that most of the time the use is proper. I disagree with the implication that, because abuse happens in small numbers, the abuse is acceptable.

Nice strawman.

Your interpretation of what I said is different than what was intended. You can think I implied it but that doesn't mean I did.

Tasers are absolutely used improperly at times. I have never denied that.

Me: Regardless of what you think, they're an awesome tool if used properly.
You: And the problem is that they're NOT used properly for the reasons outlined above. Reading that as a response to my post, I took it to mean that, in general, they are not used properly. It seems to follow from the context.
Me: Most of the time they are - you just don't hear about it.
You: And that makes it okay?
Me: Nah it just means that your statement was wrong. Notice, I said it doesn't make it okay?

Then Joncey posted what some would call an inflammatory reference to another thread, or something like that.

In retrospect I should have been more specific, but I really don't see why you think I'm saying that Taser misuse never happens.

Anyone see the Kimber Solo? I'm tempted to sell my LCP and get one of those.

Yeah I'll buy a Kimber firearm as soon as I start crapping gold thrice daily.

I guess that one isn't really that expensive, but still. It's the principle.

It's far less expensive than a typical Kimber 1911. A friend of mine has an LCP and checked out a Solo at SHOT Show and he said the difference was huge. I hate the trigger pull on the LCP..

The ambiguity in your post suggested it so I asked a clarifying question. I don't see why you STILL think I am suggesting otherwise.

Starting the sentence like that sounds like you're challenging what the person you're responding to (Jon`C) is saying, and like you're indicating that their words are meaningless. It also seems like you're saying those words are based on uninformed opinion. Now, if we strip this post into just "They're an awesome tool if used properly", we find that it's an entirely irrelevant remark because Jon`C's message did not comment on what the taser is like when used with proper consideration. It commented on taser abuse, and the fact that a lot of abuse occurs because it's not really considered abuse, and that misleading marketing by the company behind tasers is the reason for their deceptively safe image which then leads to abuse. And most importantly, it was on-topic because it commented on the potential concealed carry of tasers by people who have been trained to treat them as ultimately safe tools.

Your opinion does bring value to a discussion on tasers because you have personal experience working with them on the field, but it does not even begin to refute the discussed problems associated with tasers, despite coming off as an obvious attempt to do so.

And that, in my view, is why you ended up with this argument that has extended into the second page of the thread.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

I like my Sigma quite a lot.

Mine is a 9VE. It's barrel is only 4 inches long, and it has a 17 round magazine.

It is small, very easy to control, and very loud. The first time I used my Sigma was at my range test.

The downside to the sigma is that it needs to be on me or near me at all times because it is so stupid easy to use. The Sigma has no safety at all. If you pick it up and the magazine is in it you can pull the slide back and you have 17 stupid quick easy rounds to put everywhere.

Being a glock clone it does have that double trigger thing which gives it a long draw. Also the only way to ensure it is clear is to pull the magazine, pull the slide back and verify the barrel is clear, and then release the slide and dry fire.

I passed the test, now I have to wait for my certificate to come in the mail. Then there is a bunch of other stupid crap that costs money. I think the whole idea behind all the paperwork is making sure every bit of local government knows to put a check mark next to your name.

There are totally places in the US where you really do need a gun. If I'm up in Nowhere, Alaska and the closest cop is 45 minutes away, I'd like to have some self protection.
On the other hand, I'm about 5 minutes away from a cop where I live right now, which also happens to be a really nice neighborhood where the worst crime is a few cars got broken into a while back (nothing stolen), so I don't feel like I need a gun. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate the need for them, or respect the right of intelligent and stable Americans to own them.

-I also like my mother's statement regarding guns: She's glad she doesn't own one because she knows she would have murdered someone by now if she did.

I like this, but personally I think if you're carrying it, you should have one in the chamber, if you feel comfortable doing that with your gun. I feel fine doing it with mine; I'm confident in the internal safeties, and the grip and trigger safeties. Enough so that mine has a round in the chamber at all times. (of course, I don't have other people or children to worry about).

This is how you should ensure every gun is clear, every time, even if it has an indicator.

I don't doubt that. How long is your wait supposed to be? Our limit is 90 days, and mine took almost the full 90 days. Most of my friends got theirs after around 40. We got our certificates right there on the spot, though, so as soon as was convenient I was able to go down to the county and fill out my forms.

How long is the permit valid? We have a 5 year or a 10 year option, I chose the 10 year even though it was more expensive than a 5-year and a renewal. 10 years is a long time.

Because sometimes through no fault of your own you end up in a situation where someone much bigger than you are is about to hand you an ass whooping for the $20 in your pocket and your bicycle.

I had to hit that guy with a wrench I had in the bag I was carrying. I was taking it to school to put it in my tool box.

I think it might have been a whole lot more productive and less frightening to pull a pistol on him when he first began to approach me. He was probably within **** his pants distance of me if I had the pistol.

I don't really want to shoot someone. I just don't want to be ****ed with. Smart people walk away when you draw a gun. If you're responsible you only pull the gun out for a really good reason.

It isn't a license to use a gun without consequences. It's a license to carry a gun.
