I also take their opinions and the opinions of others into account in this manner. When all sorts of radical leftists champion a specific news source as the best the conclusion is clear.

Be careful who you are calling leftist.

Why? Besides, I didn't say that only leftists champion them. There are, of course, "moderates" and "independents" that do the same.

Why then did you mock Tibby for doing such a thing?

I'm surprised, given the sub-topic of "Americans are bad at geographical knowledge," that no-one's trotted out this xkcd yet: http://xkcd.com/850/

As far as I know, the CSM is considered a good news source.

I'm not sure if that makes me a radical leftist, though.

It's a highly-awarded news organization praised by people from all countries and all parts of the political spectrum for due diligence, lack of sensationalism and their strong and continued efforts to avoid bias.

Fox News is a widely-condemned, questioned and deliberately flawed news source favored only by the members of a new American neo-fascist movement. If it is your opinion that anybody who is not a member of this movement is a 'leftist' - a disgusting title, by the way, but I suppose ethnic slurs are too outdated for the modern fascist - it is a personal problem, and you should not confuse it with reality.

What Fox viewers learned from O'Reilly's interview of Obama: "Stubborn leftist pig is a traitor to America! I lurve 'merica, that's why I gotta kill the president, destroy the government!"

What everyone else learned from it: "Wow, O'Reilly's really unprofessional."

I like how wookiee bookmarked the CSM thread where I got told in order to bring it up in the future.
He must love me.

It really was awful. I don't watch O'Reilly pretty much ever but does he always talk over the answers his interview subjects give him?

Hiding bias is not the same as avoiding bias. Also, awards are mostly irrelevant. For example, Michael Moore has won an award for Best Documentary and Obama, Gore, and Arafat all have Nobel Peace Prizes.

The fact that other people have won other awards that may not be relevant does not discount awards the CSM may have won. I would bet all that I own that you have no idea what these awards are, who issues them, what criteria they are issued on, etc. You are just spouting bull**** so that you don't have to make any kind of solid refutation. You don't even know if he's talking about actual "awards" as items or just the connotation indicating praise.

Please give an example of bias in worldnews articles of CSM. Cite other sources showing said bias.

Yes, that's why Jon`C said "avoiding" and not "hiding."

I could be wrong but I think wookie may have been referring to media matters.? CSM is usually the first place I will look for a news story at. If I'm fortunate enough to find it there then I don't have to wade through the dribble from other media outlets.

It's pretty funny my dad has a publication from the CSM available at his church and no one there realizes that it's not "Christian" they just see Christian and think 'oh it must be good' and then see science and think 'oh it must be factual as we'll'

That sounds like a pretty progressive church. If someone from the church that I grew up in saw "Christian" & "science" in the same sentence their head would explode. True story.

Actually, it's called "memory" and "search function".

It's not always considered to actually be Christian by other churches-as far as I know, their beliefs differ significantly from traditional Protestantism, Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy. I've always heard that the paper itself was a good source of news, though.

Out of curiosity, what church/denomination did you grow up in?

They're about as Christian as evangelicals or any other church that emphasizes healing through prayer and a cult of personality.

Which is to say not at all, depending on your standards about such things.

Praise Jeezus.

Ha ha, look at that, they got a map wrong. That's pretty funny, and I look forward to future examples of media outlets getting things amusingly wrong.

The Christian Scientists are those crazy people whose kids keep dying of treatable diseases because they don't believe in medicine.

Somehow they managed to found a good newspaper. It's largely independent at this point.

Pentecostal. The particular sect that I belonged to as a child has progressed quite a bit since then (e.g: you can now watch television). My grandmother was finally able to receive the preacher's permission to go bowling in her 60's (you have to ask the preacher for permission to do just about anything). I hear the elders left in charge while the others are away at fellowship meetings aren't even allowed to **** all of their wives while they're gone anymore.
