That's a cop out. I've done six military moves married and never did I move directly into military housing. Twice I was required to find housing myself on the local economy before my turn came up for military housing. One period was over a year and the other was sometime over six months. After that I never chose to live in military housing again.

Well he didn't just move here. He just got married. He's trying to work out his housing allowance. And yeah, I've had to do the same. I spent like 1500 on a hotel when I first came to san diego. and I don't wish that on anyone. Least of all a friend. He's not dropping the ball. He's just waiting on his page 2 to get updated, so he can apply for housing, cause they won't let him otherwise.

Just like housing them because, you know, getting married when you're broke and have no viable plan to house yourself is such a great idea too! The thing I don't get is that they obviously had some housing arrangements prior to getting married. If he's so dependent upon the military housing him, why couldn't they just have maintained that until his pay and/or housing were straight? Wookie, there's a lot more to the story than what you understand. First, I never said they didn't have money. They're both perfectly financially responsible. Yes money's a bit tight, cause he's supporting her and a baby on E4 pay, but they're hardly "broke". Why should I sit by while my friend is forking money over for temporary housing when I have a spare room that I'm not using, and enjoy the company? They're helping to pay for groceries and/or buying their own, and I don't pay for electricity or water or anything, so it's not like it's costing me anything.

As to their original situation, he was living on the ship, and she was living out of the state. They needed to get married quickly because she and the baby didn't have insurance. It wasn't a matter of them just getting married without thinking things through. It was a matter of him being able to take care of his family. As to housing, you of all people should understand how the military works. He can't get BAH until he's married (have to be at least E5), and he can't get a house until he's got BAH, so how was he supposed to set up his housing before he got married? It's a stupid system. I had to stay in a hotel for 3 weeks with my wife when I first came to San Diego. I forked out like $1500 of my own money, and got dicked around by the navy and never got reimbursed. I wasn't about to sit around while the same thing happened to them.

It's a stupid system, eh? What do you want, him to draw married BAH before he is married? How else is the system supposed to work? He's eligible once he's married and will be paid normally within a month of submitting the paperwork. Still, it takes time and mistakes happen. Just because he doesn't see that in his paycheck doesn't mean he has money. Unless he's broke. You say they're not so I see no reason why they're not in their own apartment until he can move into military housing.
