Hey guys, I thought Wookie was funny.

I'm not going to lie, I think CoolMatty over reacted and decided to take Wookie's posts in that thread more vitriolic than they were. I mean, when you trade insults back and forth with a user and then ban them for returning the favor, are you really maintaining any semblance of higher ground? I am the last person to defend Wookie, and I'm not exactly going to miss the guy, but I'm not going to jump on this bandwagon.

It was more a straw that broke the camel's back sort of thing.

yeah, i thought the whole Gold resurfacing/rebanning this was awesome... wookie, not so much. yeah he was a troll(to put it mildly), but it just feels like we are now down yet another old time member.
Welcome to the douchebag club. We'd give you some cookies, but some douche ate all of them. -Rob

I would have hellbanned him rather than perma.

I also miss gold's shenanigans so I refuse to vote.
nope.

That's because he made the absolute most inappropriate response to my original post. Instead of acknowledging the fact that I had already stated it would be fixed, he decided that it was his job to dictate to me how Massassi should be run, how I'm a failure, etc. If he hates Massassi that much then he shouldn't miss it. In short, his original post, before I even replied, was pushing me to ban him, and when he decided to back up said statement, well, I had no problem with it. Pretty simple and straightforward.

Been there, done that.

The picture of a blank keyboard was questioning your ability as a moderator? His later comments about Brian were in response to you misunderstanding his post and reacting.

Hey, it's your site, but I think there's a difference between getting rid of someone you don't like and maintaining a community.

I didn't even see the blank keyboard post until you mentioned it, so no, it had nothing to do with it. I think getting rid of someone no one likes is part of maintaining a community.

You know who else tried to get rid of people no one liked in order to maintain the community? Hitler.

Thread over.

I can't say I often agreed with wookie and sometimes the way he put his point across was a little abrupt.. but I think perma-banning him was far too extreme for what he did. A few days or a week would have sufficed in my opinion.

There's only so many times you can temp-ban someone.

I miss spe and SF_GoldG :(. Neutral about wookie.

I don't have a problem with gold, though trying to scam the site was a dick move.

I'm not saying Wookie didn't deserve his ban, but I do feel like Massassi lost it's 'In-house Republican'. It's always good to hear both sides of an issue before deciding that Republicans are stupid. :)

If anything, Wookie's absence will make the argument that Republicans aren't stupid more believable.

Whatever happened to spe?

And yeah, I haven't been around the discussion forum long enough to have a concrete opinion on Wookie, I was just making a joke. I apologize if I offended anyone.

Also, I'm kissing up to Cool Matty in hopes that he will write for NeS... :P (Kidding!)

I sort of miss Gold, but I can't tell you how happy I am that the troll is gone.
2011-06-21, 1:53 PM #30
At least when wookie was in a thread, there was something to read. (His posts, I usually did not read. But we also lose the REPLIES to his posts, and those were often full of information.)
2011-06-21, 2:41 PM #31
Wookie would frequently crap on honest, productive discussions. When we called him out for it he would accuse US of ruining the thread.

Good riddance.

I think you need to be a little more thick-skinned when moderating the site. I've disagreed with almost all of Wookie's political views and spent most of 2003 arguing with him at TACC (thanks Iraq war). But I wouldn't resort to banning him over a difference of opinion.
2011-06-22, 6:27 AM #37
It wasn't a difference of opinion, it was him trolling and being a jackass. :P
nope.

He wasn't banned for his opinions in the past, he was banned for bringing up his political opinions in threads that had absolutely nothing to do with politics. Aka, thread crapping.

ITT: People telling Cool Matty he's doing a crap job of running the forums after Wookie06 was banned for telling Cool Matty he's doing a crap job of running the forums.
