Best Thing to Happen to Massassi Lately?

I understand the need for order and control, but aren't we risking extinction if we keep getting rid of members? I mean, everyone is obviously not going to get along.

I am thinking of us as a family, there are just those black-sheep in the family sometimes.

Wookie was banned twice before (at least) for a week each time. I think there should be some sort of sticky in which we list bans and the reasons for them happening.

But, y'know, I'm not a doctor.

Oh and also he ****ing sucked, good riddance.

Please tell me you're being facetious.

...You're kidding, right CM?
nope.

I don't know who's kidding anymore.

I find myself coming back to Massassi less and less. The more Wookies and SF_Golds that get banned, the more and more this site becomes nothing more than a bland little puddle of aging Star Wars nerdage.
2011-06-23, 6:54 AM #50
As a droplet in the puddle of aging Star Wars nerdage, I highly resent that remark!

Hey, Thrawn, didn't you write for NeS at one point?

So basically, exactly like it was before they came into the picture?

Massassi was a lot bigger then. We had other crazy people like spe. Also there was, like, a modding community. Now there's just sort of a few people staying late--kicking out people for making trouble is a luxury Massassi doesn't really have anymore.
2011-06-23, 6:06 PM #58
Ban everyone, start over.

Thrawn, I've had this discussion before. It's better to let the community die off due to lack of interest than it is to let it fester thanks to trolls. It's only a step above calling spambots "activity".
2011-06-23, 7:43 PM #60
Oh, well then, keep up the good work.

Also keep I'm mind that there is absolutely nothing stopping you or anyone else from trying to drum up new members! Keeping a couple trolls around isn't going to save Massassi you know. I've asked numerous times for people to pitch in, but it's not very motivating when folks don't want to help out. I'm really only ranting in general now, so don't take all that personally.

I was considering suggesting to my brothers that they join, but the last thing we need is another 15 and 16 year old.

Maybe bump the period of 3-7 day bans to a month+, some people seem to cycle in and out of that list until they get perma-banned where it's become camel-straw. A three to seven day ban seems to be a slap on the wrist, when it should probably be an active attempt to re-adjust behaviour that one day bans as warnings have failed at. Apart from the odd sociopath (whom I hope we don't cater to anyway), most people already know when they're being cocks and are pushing their luck.

With the possible exception of Mechwarrior, when you don't visit for a long while it can help break some repetitive patterns of behaviour.
2011-06-24, 4:52 AM #65
Antony - by all means, recruit your brothers! We need some young'uns we can feel superior to and sneer at! :P

How would we go about suggesting to people that they join? "Hey, there's this small community of people who chat on the forums about random things. It's exactly like a thousand other generic sites that do the same thing, except most of them have some experience with the Dark Forces series of games."

Heck, I've tried recruiting some people for NeS, with little luck, though I still have some prospects.

is there any way of donating monetarily to keep massassi afloat? or are you more looking for help with admin/website type stuff

'cept for the fact that what would we claim is the draw of the site? For those of us still here, I think it's just... the other people that are still here who we like. I'm fine with Massassi being just that, anymore.

I only take donations when it's time for a paid forum update. Otherwise no, I don't need money to keep the site going. I'm more looking for people to assist in creating a new, more interesting Massassi.

Yeah, that's about it for me too. I probably spent more time reading Wookie's arguments with people than anything else on Massassi in recent times, so now that he's gone there's not a whole lot left for me to do here :(

I mean, when you trade insults back and forth with a user and then ban them for returning the favor, are you really maintaining any semblance of higher ground? I am the last person to defend Wookie, and I'm not exactly going to miss the guy, but I'm not going to jump on this bandwagon.

I'm with you. It was unwarranted. However, I know our opinions don't matter.

The conclusion should be rather obvious. Joncy was Wookie.

No, it shouldn't. And if it is for you, you need to describe exactly what's wrong, and on what browser.

I'm using firefox and it's completely screwed up. I'll type something and hit enter and it'll move the text I just typed down the screen, characters show up in the wrong places, it's just a mess. I've been typing stuff in wordpad and pasting it in.

What version of Firefox, because I have no such issues in FF4 or 5 (AKA, the up to date ones).
