So! Halloween's right around the corner and most of my little circle of friends, myself included, had/have brilliant costumes planned out and made. But there was one friend who had no idea what he wanted until recently, when he decided to go as Ezio from Assassin's Creed.

The problem is that's not exactly a costume you find on the shelf. He had this brilliant plan to buy a bunch of fabric and make it himself. 2 problems with that. 1) the fabric would cost like $75 2) the boy doesn't really sew.

Since his birthday was a week ago and my two friends and I didn't get him anything, we decided to make him the costume ourselves and surprise him with it. I felt like, while some of you will mock us mercilessly, some of you might appreciate it. Video game character and all that. The boy pictured is not the end wearer, since the completed costume is supposed to be a surprise. He's just modeling it.

I wish I had thought to take pictures of what we started out with, but unfortunately, I didn't think to. Suffice it to say, we went to goodwill and got an oversized dress coat with tails and a vest, and a skirt, then got some red fabric at a fabric/craft store. This is what it turned into the first day.

I guess I forgot to send myself the front facing picture. No matter. After another shopping trip and some abuse,

and a lot of sewing (have I mentioned I haven't sewn since 6th grade home ec?) we got to this:

Don't hate on my friend for looking so rough. We'd been going on very little sleep for a few nights now.

Then the brains behind this has a breakthrough when it comes to the armor:
Fincham: Where are you going?
Me: I have no idea
Fincham: I meant where are you sitting. This wasn't an existential question.

More shopping and stitching (did I mention that all of the sewing is being done by hand by the three of us after work every day? And none of us really sew) and this is where we are now.

Not done, no, but I think it's really coming along. Which is good, because none of us have gotten any more than 5 hours of sleep at any point this week because of this. Thoughts?

Also my costume for Halloween is twelve times as awesome, but not nearly as much work involved :P

Well, that rules out anything scifi that isn't Doctor Who. :P
nope.
2011-10-21, 1:45 PM #9
I'm going as the 11th doctor, tying a bow tie is ****ing hard, but fezzes are comfortable, my suspenders just came in the mail
2011-10-21, 1:50 PM #10
Baconfish - not sci fi, actually.

Couchman - clip on! That's awesome though! A group of my friends and I went as the cast of doctor who 2 or 3 years ago, but that was before Matt Smith.

i'm going as a clone trooper on his day off
eat right, exercise, die anyway
2011-10-21, 10:39 PM #12
Damn. Wish I had friends like sugarless! o_o

I think I might end up just going as a Faustian-style devil guy (or maybe just evil lawyer if I don't do horns or something). Might be moot though if I don't go to any parties or whatnot. Last year, I did a stereotypical Australian Crocodile Hunter-type guy.

I could've bought a pre-tied one but i felt that cheapened the experience, plus I've always wanted to learn, I bought a black one with my burgandy one so I might just start wearing them

This halloween I shall be going out boozing on the saturday, dressed as myself going out boozing. Because I don't get to do it very often.

I've got a free pass from Izzy! :D
2011-10-22, 5:42 PM #17
Does that mean DRINKING SHORTS?!
nope.
2011-10-22, 8:09 PM #18
im going as the annoying girl from glee because all i had to do was buy knee high socks...
I'm proud of my life and the things that I have done, proud of myself and the loner I've become.

HELL YES BACONFISH IT DOES.

:D

I think it's cool! Of course, I work in a costume/game store.

You guys seem to be doing a great job, this isn't an easy thing to piece together.

Wear shorts. Drink.
nope.

I'll probably be going as Neil from Art Attack. Possibly a coked up, heart attack version.
2011-10-23, 7:34 PM #24
Thanks, Masq! It has been shockingly difficult (and time consuming) to put together. This is just about done - bear in mind the person wearing it already has boots and gauntlets not pictured here. The belt design is now done, but I don't have pictures of it.

And, because I'm too excited, I'll just come right out and share my costume and hope stickz doesn't bother to look in this thread. I'm going as an old-school cliche romance novel cover heroine :D I'm super psyched.

Haha well as I'm going as one from a historical, I'm not exactly slutting it up, though my bosoms shall heave and my bodice may be ripped

I love that video. Our store has a "sexy" rack over in the women's costumes, and I'm always messing with the people that work in that section.

"Hey, someone just called asking for a plus size sexy rabbi costume. Do we have that in stock right now?"

Do you carry sexy sentient house?

nope.

New winner! The cat is really the icing on the sentient cake.

I think our worst might be "sexy girl scout."

So you went back and removed the photo two minutes after posting it, and now I'll never see it. Oh well, I'll try to get gbk to agree to simulate what I might have seen by wearing a similar costume, taking a photo and sending it to me...
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

That's pretty funny. You're right, I've been lurking this thread waiting for sugarless to post a picture. Anyway, sugarless, what is Mirthy going as for Halloween? Does it involve a short skirt and corset?
2011-10-26, 8:56 AM #38
Jesus christ, you're weird. I swear to god you're like the candyman. Everyone's glad you're gone until someone makes the mistake of bringing up your name, and then you suddenly appear.

It's so hot in fact, I had to tell sugarless not to post it because it'd be considered pornography.
