So! Halloween's right around the corner and most of my little circle of friends, myself included, had/have brilliant costumes planned out and made. But there was one friend who had no idea what he wanted until recently, when he decided to go as Ezio from Assassin's Creed.
The problem is that's not exactly a costume you find on the shelf. He had this brilliant plan to buy a bunch of fabric and make it himself. 2 problems with that. 1) the fabric would cost like $75 2) the boy doesn't really sew.
Since his birthday was a week ago and my two friends and I didn't get him anything, we decided to make him the costume ourselves and surprise him with it. I felt like, while some of you will mock us mercilessly, some of you might appreciate it. Video game character and all that. The boy pictured is not the end wearer, since the completed costume is supposed to be a surprise. He's just modeling it.
I wish I had thought to take pictures of what we started out with, but unfortunately, I didn't think to. Suffice it to say, we went to goodwill and got an oversized dress coat with tails and a vest, and a skirt, then got some red fabric at a fabric/craft store. This is what it turned into the first day.
I guess I forgot to send myself the front facing picture. No matter. After another shopping trip and some abuse,
and a lot of sewing (have I mentioned I haven't sewn since 6th grade home ec?) we got to this:
Don't hate on my friend for looking so rough. We'd been going on very little sleep for a few nights now.
Then the brains behind this has a breakthrough when it comes to the armor:

Fincham: Where are you going?
Me: I have no idea
Fincham: I meant where are you sitting. This wasn't an existential question.
