Realized we don't have one of these yet.

Tim Tebow is an awful quarterback. Discuss.

I think Pittsburgh will lose to Denver. Atlanta was awful. Toss up between GB and New England. New Orleans, while a good team, doesn't seem as consistent as the others.
obviously you've never been able to harness the power of cleavage...

Tebow is awful, yes. At least after today we shouldn't have to hear about him anymore.

As much as I hate to see Tebow continue to luck out, I hate the Steelers more. So I am happy, because my Facebook news feed will be full of sulking Steelers fans.

How do you stop the option?

I find my hatred of the steelers wins over my dislike of Tebow.
I found myself cheering for Denver pretty hard. Next up: I really hate new England. Lets go, god, Tebow needs another miracle.

I want to take this joke further, but google image search is failing me.

I was able to find pointy Cox, but sadly no waving Cox. Pointy Cox is almost as good, though.

Houston Texans would be the best team in the league if Schaub hadn't been hurt. As impressive as the Packers have been, they've pretty clearly outperformed (in terms of wins) the quality of their roster.

The SEC doesn't play offense for ****.

I know this is the NFL thread, but it's our only sports thread so I thought I'd go ahead and post that here.

It's either that or they play defense really well. Considering Alabama scored roughly 50 points per game this season, and LSU scored roughly 33 points per game this season, I would say they can play some offense fairly well.

As an Ok State alum, I feel that we could have whupped either team. What is that based on? I don't know, but while I hate to beat a dead horse, I hate that we'll never know because the SEC got to have their own little thing going on that never involved us.

I haven't watched much of Tebow in the NFL, but it seems like he doesn't really have anyone good to throw the ball to. Most of what I saw was receivers dropping easy passes.

What's with the extreme fanboyism and hate for Tebow? Is it just because he's an outspoken Christian? It seems like he doesn't play good or bad enough to justify it on his performance.
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.
2012-01-14, 11:06 AM #32
Sure, his recievers drop passes on occasion, but nowhere nearly as often as he just blatantly misses throws. It's annoying because people like Phil Simms talk about how he "smartly threw it away after seeing the coverage" when it's obvious that it was just a botched throw. He gets lucky on occasion (see: overtime v Pittsburgh) and makes big plays, but the majority of his success comes from the misfortune of the team they're playing against, which will invariably lead the game into overtime, where Tebow will lead an "amazing" 13 yard drive to get within range of a field goal to win the game. It's amazing that they're not winning because of their good luck, they're winning because of their opponents' horrible luck. Tebow is not a good qb. He doesn't actually do much of anything well, other than run the ball. He cannot complete simple passes. What's even more bizarre, is they have a quarterback who actually can throw accurate passes, but he's being paid millions of dollars to try to teach Tebow how to throw a football.

The media has swarmed the Tebow story because it's essentially a sports movie come-to-life. Tebow is a guy who everyone said would make a terrible NFL quarterback, but somehow, against all odds, he is winning. The Broncos have been awful for the last several years, and with a brand new head coach, after a 1-4 start, they ditched their starting QB to go with the guy who had proven absolutely nothing. They managed a six game winning streak to take the lead in their division, and subsequently won said division because all of the other teams in it are even worse than they are. So after winning the division and going to the playoffs, they manage to beat a team that only lost 4 games this season mainly because that team was plagued with injuries, and made a few horrible decisions. Now they're playing a primetime game against the team that can ostensibly be called the super-villains of the NFL, who not only ended the Broncos' winning streak earlier this season, but are looking to prove that they've still got it and can win playoff games.

It's like watching a football version of Major League, where the unproven new guy is a devout Christian instead of a convicted felon.

The Broncos defense and kicker don't get nearly enough credit for their run as well.

He's actually really bad by most reliable measures of quarterback performance (adjusted yards per attempt, expected points added, Football Outsiders' DVOA). His receivers are better than advertised -- a little below league average this year, but talented young players. Eric Decker was very good the first half of the season, and Demaryius Thomas has shown flashes of brilliance (for example, last week against the Steelers), but they're not getting a lot of good passes. Drops are a problem, but even if his receivers had a league-average number of drops, Tebow still wouldn't be completing 50% of his passes.

My annoyance with the guy is twofold. First, he's the quarterback of my team and he's bad at his job. Second, he gets insane, Brett Favre-like levels of hype, with virtually round-the-clock coverage on ESPN. That kind of thing is annoying enough when it's a future Hall of Famer like Favre who also happens to be an attention whore. Tebow doesn't get it because he's good, he gets it because he's the embodiment of every idiotic football cliche there is: a "tough" "scrappy" "hard-working" "clutch quarterback" who "just knows how to win."

What we can count on, MacFarlane, is that all of that probably infuriates Tom Brady.

I also feel the need to bring up the fact that Chad Ochocinco is actually pretty cool: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/chad-ochocinco-ignores-twitter-follower-makes-him-183916139.html

I also read that Ochocinco got pulled aside by a few team mates when he asked Tom Brady why he was in such a bad mood. They said that no one talks to Brady during the playoffs. You just have to leave him alone, otherwise you'll get your head ripped off.

God asks Aaron Rodgers: “What do you believe?” Rodgers says, “I believe in hard work and in staying true to family and friends.” God can’t help but see the goodness of Rodgers and offers him a seat to His left.

Then God turns to Tim Tebow and says, “What do you believe?” Tebow says, “I believe in Your total goodness, love and generosity and that You have given all to mankind.” God is greatly moved by Tebow’s eloquence, and offers him a seat to His right.

Finally, God turns to Tom Brady: “And you, Tom, what do you believe?”

Tom replies, “I believe you’re in my seat.”
