Bands that you've never heard of...
2004-01-02, 6:59 AM #1
But you probably should. List bands that you think no one will have heard of, but are good and should be checked out! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

My list:

Beloved (melodic hardcore, really good stuff)
Underoath (melodic hardcore)
Thrice (Ok I'm sure some of you have heard of them, now that they're on MTV, but check 'em out anyway)
Coheed and Cambria (indie)
The Postal Service (electronic)
The Faint (electronic)
Piebald (pop rock)
Kind of Like Spitting (soft rock with a violinist)

And if you're into metal/hardcore,

Every Time I Die
Between the Buried and Me
The Number 12 Looks Like You
Daughters
The Bled
Hopesfall
Glassjaw

I don't want this to turn into a music snobbery fest. Think of it more as a "sharing" thread. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

I wouldn't call Rhapsody and Blind Guardian exactly unheard of anymore... as for Iced Earth, well, when Judas Priest' vocalist joins in.. but yeah, to most unmetal people, they're strangers I admit.

well, contribution:

Mmm. Music snobbery.

I saw the Yonder Mountain String Band live, too. In St. Louis. They were good.

Jesse Dangerously - A brillant Canadian rapper/poet guy. MP3 here, lyrics here. Use together for optimum results. Some language.

the bands i would suggest had music up on mp3.com so it's kinda pointless right now

Dude, I'm surprised I know about 80 percent of the bands in the lists so far... is that good?

Sigur Ros <3

I've seen Glassjaw in concert, not a big fan, but it's a totally different kind of music than what I usually like, so ya.

dry gear the frog has my favorite list so far

Jump, Little Children (rock) RECORDING NEW ALBUM THIS WEEK IN ATLANTA WOOOHOOOOO!!!

Tinkers Punishment (you've heard Muse right? TP = better)

Doves (kind of electronic/brit pop) good stuff

Carbon Leaf (folk/rock) i love these guys, but it's an acquired taste, first time you listen you're like... em... check the song The Boxer

Owen Beverly (radiohead + jeff buckley?) check out the song Stillborn, oh so good

South (britpop) kind of like Doves, but not really... good stuff, new CD With the Tides is awesome

Rosebud (norah jones/jazz) good stuff, lead singer of Jump Little Children's side project

I like a lot of Saul Williams stuff. It's poetry/rap. It's really hit-or-miss, though, for me at least.

The man knows what he's talking about! Though I've never heard of "The Tea Party"...

Iced Earth's "Gettysburg 1863" from their new album, with vocals by Tim Owens, is their best song ever. Better than a Question of Heaven, Dante's Inferno and the Something Wicked Trilogy, too.

And I only have an awful quality MP3 rip.

I'm not really a huge fan of Hammerfall. It's all a bit power-metally for me. "Glory to the Brave" is probably their one stand out song. All the rest have a tendency to blur together...

And my additions:

Savatage (Metal with a broadway style!)

Woah, more paradoxes in there than I can count. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Let's see if I can provide some linkage...

Lapdog- Father Christmas (Kinks cover)
This is a great Kinks cover, much better than the original.

Glen Phillips- The Last Sunset (live)
A beautiful song by Glen Phillips.

Video for Glen Phillips's "Brain Trust Kid"
16 megs, but nice.

Glen Phillips and Nickel Creek- Falling

Glen Phillips- Falling
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! PLEASE LISTEN! (note- contains a bit of swearing)

I checked out the Tom Petty song and dug it.
