Tue, Dec 02, 03 01:12:42 AM EST

Ender_Sai works for a major international music retailer and sent us this:
Just following up information to your stories about the Classic Trilogy on DVD; our upcoming releases bulletin lists Star Wars: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi as being released by 20th Century Fox on November 4th, 2004. This information came to us via FOX themselves, so it's 99% reliable.
One other note, prices won't be known for sure until approximately 3 months before release. And as of today they're listed as separate releases; there's no Star Wars trilogy box set listed though it will be released, presumably. I thought it was interesting as Indy isn't available separately. </font>

This info was taken from The Force.net; therefore there must be some truth to it... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Supposedly there is going to be an Ultimate Edition of the trilogy that will come out a year after the dvds.

Thu, Nov 20, 03 09:33:04 PM EST

It has been reported all over the web and on this website for months, though now there's a resurgence in the rumors that an eventual and final release of the Classic Trilogy is coming. Where these rumors are coming from now is a person emailing a list of changes to websites and telling them work is being done. And while we can defintiely confirm that ILM is working on the movies for plenty of enhancements, the list may not be accurate.
Here's the run down of possible and very rumored changes:

Episode IV: A New Hope

The Imperial March has been added to Darth Vader's first appearance on Princess Leia's ship.
When Obi-Wan is talking to Luke about his father Anakin's Theme plays in the background and then it turns into the Imperial March as he talks about Vader.
The lightsaber effects have been redone and the frame jumps of lightsabers being turned on has been removed.
There's a new scene which has been shot during the filming of Episode III in which the Emperor dissolves the Senate.
In the Cantina, the Duros (green aliens guys) have been replaced with Neimoidians and some aliens from the prequels have been added.
The bleeding arm on the floor in the Cantina has been replaced with a non-bleeding arm because it's now canon that lightsabers cauterize wounds.
The original shooting scene between Han and Greedo has been restored.
Jabba the Hutt has been given a makeover and Han no longer steps on his tale.
In place of R2 wobbling down the stairs to the Falcon's hangar, a CG R2 navigating the stairs like he does in Attack of the Clones was added.
The white boxes around space ships have been removed and new CG shots have been added.
The scene of the Falcon being chased by the two Star Destroyers was modified. The Falcon now does spinning moves, avoiding the Star Destroyers' fire.
When the Death Star destroys Alderaan there's a new scene of Yoda's reaction to the disturbance in the Force that is created by all those deaths and then it cuts to Obi-Wan reacting to it as well.
The Dianoga has gotten a CG makeover and were are now able to see more of the creature.
The Death Star's paneling and computers have been slightly altered to show similar displays to those in the prequels.
The words "Tractor Beam" with Aurebesh lettering.
More stormtroopers have been added to the Death Star.
Temuera Morrison's voice is being recorded for use with all the stormtroopers.
The Obi-Wan/Vader duel has been spruced up. It is much more epic and there is much more movement. A modified version of Duel of the Fates is being considered for the scene.
The Death Star plans that are taken from R2 have been updated. When the Rebels are reviewing the Death Star plans they look similar to the plans we see in Attack of the Clones.
The Death Star battle is much more epic with more Tie Fighters and more Rebels being blown to bits. We get to see old Naboo starfighters being used by the Rebels.
There's a new scene (shot during Episode III) where Darth Vader goes to Coruscant and lands his ship in the same building Count Dooku does at the end of Attack of the Clones. Except now the building is all fixed up and it is now Palpatine's palace. He meets with Palpatine to ask for forgiveness for his failure and inform him of a new potential who is strong in the Force.
Chewbacca now gets a medal.

Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

The taun-tauns are now CG.
The battle of Hoth is much more epic. We see the Imperial ships land on Hoth and release AT-ATs. The AT-ATs have been sped up a bit. There's a ground battle between the Rebel soldiers and stormtroopers featuring new ships and vehicles.
Temuera Morrison's voice is being recorded for the older Boba Fett and all the stormtroopers.
The white boxes around space ships have been removed.
The slug monster is CG.
Ian McDiarmid has refilmed scenes as the Emperor. The conversations between Vader and Palpatine is now longer and features a few connections to the prequels.
Yoda's face is now animated in CG allowing more expression of emotions yet his movements remain the same. Also two deleted scenes featuring Yoda instructing Luke have been restored.
A new scene was shot in which the stormtroopers, after they capture Han, Leia and Chewie, bring Vader the box containing C-3PO in pieces. Vader orders the stormtroopers to bring the broken droid to Chewbacca's cell so that he can fix him.
The lightsaber effects have been redone in certain parts.
Luke's fall from Cloud City has been reshot against bluescreen using a stuntman.

Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

Jabba the Hutt is now a combination of the puppet and CG.
The Rancor is CG and looks disgusting as ever.
Yoda is CG. Yoda disappears leaving his clothes behind like Obi-Wan now.
The ewoks are now mostly CG and there are a lot more of them.
The plan is to insert the love theme Across the Stars when Luke is talking with Leia about their mother.
Temuera Morrison's like before is now the voice for Boba Fett and all the stormtroopers.
In the battle of Endor there are thousands of Ewoks and they are more vicious than there midgets-in-suits counterparts. More bite the dust now.
White boxes around ships removed.
The black blotches around Palpatine's face are gone.
Some of the lightsaber effects have been redone. The shadows that the lightsabers made on the floor are gone.
During Anakin's death scene it starts with a sad rendition of the Imperial March and slowly evolves into Anakin's Theme.
Sebastion Shaw who played Anakin when he was unmasked has been replaced with Hayden Christenson in make-up to make him look older. Anakin has much more dialogue. He apologizes for the destruction he caused, he thanks his son for turning him back to the light, he tells his son to rebuild the Jedi and he says he loves him and his sister. Just before he dies he says, "It is finished...".
We see more planets celebrating at the end of the movie. We see an aged Jar Jar, who is now the leader of the Gungans, on Naboo celebrating with the people of Naboo and the Gungans. We see an old Watto, who is now unable to fly, sitting in a hover chair cheering on Tatooine. During these scenes Across the Stars plays transitioning to the victory celebration music at the Ewok tree village.
Anakin's spirit is now played by Hayden Christenson with make-up to make him look his age. He looks on proudly at his son Luke with the spirit of Padme by his side.
Again, these are more of a wish list than accurate information.
We also wanted to tell you something perhaps even more significant. Episode I: The Phantom Menace is getting a full overhaul as well. We'll leave you with that for now.

You can tell that "ultimate edition" is by george lucas, just look at all the stuff they're replacing with CG! How can they replace the ewoks and taun tauns? Bah.

" The bleeding arm on the floor in the Cantina has been replaced with a non-bleeding arm because it's now canon that lightsabers cauterize wounds.

YAY! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]
now if they would just canon-ise the fact that saber colour has NOTHING to do with which side of the Force you're on =P

the voice thing for the stormies is interesting... is that the guy who plays Jango? if so that means all stormies will be Clones... which doesn't seem to fit AT ALL.
I thought the Empire was anti-alien and anti-clone...??

"Chewbacca now gets a medal." hehehehe was that to remove the "racism" from ANH? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

"# Sebastion Shaw who played Anakin when he was unmasked has been replaced with Hayden Christenson in make-up to make him look older. Anakin has much more dialogue. can you say "lead-in for sequels" ? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

I hope that a lot of that is rumour... but some of it sounds good. the deleted scenes of Luke and Yoda sound cool since they were original [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]
anyway... we'll see if it happens or not.

but i definetely can't see Lucas NOT releasing a box set (=

Actually no, there was an interview lately that talked with George and he said the "Ultimate" edition is NOT going to be done. So no more keep-away between Chewie and the Ugnaghts in that smelting room?

Yeah, some of the things on that list have to be a joke, if it were done. Seeing a Naboo fighter in ANH would just ruin it.

Here's hoping it's all lies. They really have no right to change Yoda in the first trilogy to CG. IMO he was [and is] the only puppet character to have ever escaped his own puppet nature. Making a 2 foot tall stuffed animal with a hand up its *** seem ageless and wise was an amazing feat and a very risky one to take on when the second movie was produced.

I haven't read any episode 3 spoilers but I really hope what they said about Jarjar surviving to old age was a dirty lie as well.

Some of my thoughts on the supposed "Ultimate Edition" changes:

ANH:

-Don't add Imperial March, it should be saved for ESB, when Vader's SSD first appears.
-Re-done saber effects would be nice. The sabers appear extremely fuzzy in most shots. During the Obi-Wan/Vader battle, Obi's saber seems to "fizzle out" when it's pointed directly at the camera, and Vader's appears to be white in one shot.
-A Neimodian in the cantina might be interesting, but they shouldn't replace the Duros.
-Keep the bleeding arm. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]
-Don't show more of the Dianoga, and definately don't show Yoda's reaction to the destruction of Alderaan.
-Don't "spruce up" the Obi/Vader duel, aside from the saber effects. It's fine how it is!
-I wouldn't mind having maybe one Naboo fighter in the Battle of Yavin, as long as it's in the background.
-It would kind of look nice if they were able to update the computer screens on the Death Star/Rebel Base to more accurately resemble the computer displays seen in the prequels.

ESB:

The taun-tauns are now CG
-NO.
-Don't mess with the Battle of Hoth, either.
-Don't CG Yoda, or the space slug.
-Maybe a small, extra bit of prequel-related dialog between Vader/Palpy would be interesting, but not too much.

ROTJ:

-Leave Jabba and the rancor how they are. If they could edit out some of the black lines outlining the rancor in the scenes with it and Luke (which make it kind of look fake), that would look better.
-Once again, leave Yoda alone..
-...and for the love of God, no more Ewoks! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]
-I'm not sure about changing all of the troopers' voices to that of Jango. I thought the helmets made everyone sound the same, anyways. Besides, would clones all necessarily sound exactly like the "parent"?
-The new music during Anakin's death might be interesting, but don't change the face into Hayden! Unless they could do it perfectly, and even then, I'm not sure...
-The extended celebration scene might be cool, as long as the shots of Jar-Jar/Watto are short and involve no dialogue.
-Don't add Padme to the Yoda/Obi/Anakin spirit scene at the end. She wasn't a Jedi.

What the? I hate all those new changes! They shouldn't add new music, dialoge, etc! The only thing that should be fixed are the frame jumps.
You know these changes are starting to remind me of that South Park episode where they made fun of George and Steven.

Totally ridiculous. Usually when someone makes prequels, they try and make them fit in with the sequel, rather than make prequels, then remake the original to fit in with the prequels. The creators of Dumb and Dumberer knew this; why doesn't George Lucas?

Honestly, any aesthetic alterations to the film are bull. The films were MADE in the late 70s/early 80s... Nothing Lucas does can change that... Unless he makes completely new films, which at this point, wouldn't suprise me. By the time we get our "Super Ultimate Even-More-Special Edition", Luke and Han will be CGI.

I sure hope this is someone's idea of a cruel joke. But some of it doesn't make sense. Like replacing Anikan with that no talent attempt at an actor from Episode 2? And redoing 80% of this in CG...what?

Adding Yoda and the Emperor to Episode IV, the best way to phrase this is "why?"

Some of the little technical details like the lightsabers, and the arm make sense...but I dont think it's worth *******izing the movies. They were made using what was avalible to them at the time, and those were good movies. Personally, I like the fact that there isn't any CG. The movies relied on acting not look what my toy, ILM, can do now. Isn't it shiny?.

I saw that list a long time ago at theforce.net message boards which was by someone who made more alledged claims about Star Wars and the AotC DVD(mentioning alot of things that never made it to the DVD, like a completed droid control ship battle). It was from some sort of SuperShadow if you will.

To be honest, I wouldn't put too much faith in that list.

Yeah people dont expect any of that **** to happen. If you watch the Special Features for AOTC, Lucas talks about how he does not like CG and that he was really reluctant to make yoda a CG character. Lucas is not the bad guy.

They went over the original reels when they did the special edition as they had to clean them anyway.

George Lucas wants the movies to resemble his vision, not make all you fanboys happy by comprimising his own vision of the star wars universe.

Anyway, the movies are his to do whatever he wants with them. if his vision makes half the EU books not fit in with the movies then so be it.

/me hides from the inevitable flame war of EU vs. Lucas

GL doesn't like CG? Who the hell is he trying to kid? Has he forgotten the CG madness that went on in EpI and II (gungans, droids, genosia, kamino etc)

First of all, very small things in that list would do us good, but honestly? We can do without.

Lastly, comming from a Video Editor, they won't do half of that, if they do it at all. The amount of chopping that'd take is INSANE. That would cost more than Ep1-6 plus the cleanup special edition combined.

Also, YOU DO NOT ****ING CHANGE THE ORIGINAL TO FIT THE ****-FOR-MOVIES YOU MAKE 20 YEARS LATER WHEN YOU'RE DOPING UP AT HOME AND ROLLING IN THE MOUND OF CASH! The new Trillogy sucks, oh well. But don't let that suckage overlap onto the thing that even made that suckage possible.

My god, this thread has made me angry.

This is an old thread, and it has been revived. We have been advised not to post in threads that we know are about to close, and I'm only doing so to warn others. You will all thank me one day.
