That bowl looks damn fine to me, and it's way better than anything I could have done. It's in the map that's in my sig, if you didn't know. The pendulum looks good as well. I really should round up that project.

JK view models were harder to make because they just disabled the depth testing while drawing it, instead of clearing the z-buffer or adding a bias. That meant the faces and meshes in the model had to be ordered by hand, back to front. Normal 3dos don't need anything special done to them.

Well that sucks. All along I figured you had just flaked on it. my bad. If it makes it any better, everybody else lost interest too afaik.

I'm more than willing to work with people I'd otherwise disagree with, and I really don't have as much of a problem with you as you think. I mean with the whole leadership/direction thing before in that xna project, I wasn't insulting you, I had actual legit concerns about giving the technical direction job to someone who had never done it before (especially when gettleberger was willing to do it, literally a professional). it's not like it's a job that people should really "want" either so I was really confused why you and jm were giving me such a hard time over it.

oh well.

It was an ambitious project to start with and try to tackle, and admittedly, would likely have "flaked" at some point without further burning efforts from others. After all, I could have pestered Gettle more, or contacted you again, and instead took it at face value for "everyone else gave up."

I believe you and don't think you have as much of a problem with me, or even some others, as could be believed. I do think you feel the need to be far more mean here than, say, via email, for reasons I'm not entirely sure. Regarding that project, I believe you were acting in what you felt was in the best interest of the project. I just happened to disagree with you, and I could only do so much because the vocal Massassi community had appointed you to 'lead' the project. I gave you a hard time because I couldn't give anyone else a hard time about it if I was to help the project go in a direction for success, and to my knowledge, your qualifications included having the popular vote (as opposed to Gettle, who had industry experience). I really wanted it, apart from disagreeing on your reasons, because it's my life passion to do even the "horrid" work, and I continue to struggle myself with having taken a relatively more secure job over a job creating games and doing what I love.

Really, it's the past now, and I truly appreciate the sentiment. I gave you a hard time now because, as JediKirby said, I too believe you would have been a very positive, strong influence, and instead, you seem to have a somewhat strong, mostly negative influence, putting down people and the like whenever possible, deserving or not. Perhaps that's your intent, to act as the devil's advocate, the "bad guy" that people need, which I can understand. It's only so meaningful to speculate in that regard, though, and have said what I said because I haven't been much better in this thread and wish to be forthcoming instead of acting out of ill-intent.

Also, Xzero's certainly active in the Crysis community and he's been credited as a "Junior Graphics Engineer" for Crysis 3.

I've read postmortems from commercial projects that weren't even half as good as this thread.

There's just not a lot of progress that I can show off since to most people it'd look like the project has actually gotten worse.

Well, I tend to enjoy reading the progress updates, even if there's no obvious visual progress... the little behind-the-scenes descriptions can be pretty fascinating, even in cases where the jargon is a little out of reach. If you're ever on the fence about posting an update, do it!

Holy hell. I know I'm reviving a couple-month old thread, but I just need to contribute.

I really, really appreciate the comments made about me, and I'm amazed that they're generally good ones. It's no question that my past here has been rocky.. to put it lightly. I started modding when I was 13, and I spent the majority of my teenage years here (ie: blunder years). You guys helped me grow up, and I can't thank you enough for it. Sorry it was so rough. :ninja:

JediKirby: Water under the bridge. :) I might actually thank you for that (the idea at least, can't say I remember the execution very well), because if it wasn't for getting shot down, I wouldn't have tried to improve to meet your expectations. I never did finish the level, but I tried and I learned a few things doing it.

Jon`C: I can't tell you how shocked and humbled I am to hear positive praise from you, especially after the "mutual blow-up" (as you eloquently put it) which I was sure killed my reputation. Which again, I'm sorry about. I have to say if it wasn't for you and the other members here I wouldn't be where I am today. The "tough love" approach that a few others here are speculating at is one of the things that pushed me (whether or not that's what it is), so thank you.

ORJ_Jos: Thanks! I'm so sorry I copied your level. The others were right though, it was a compliment to the design. I really like the magma-floor style of the level. But copying the map idea was a very poor choice, no matter how you swing it. Also, finish your projects! I really like the levels you've released so far, there's a certain "care" put into them that shows in the design. It'd be a shame if I can't play the rest. ;)

saberopus: I'm an R&D Graphics Engineer (no longer Junior as FastGamerr stated) on our Cinebox project, though I do some art stuff occasionally as well. And of course I try to contribute to the games as much as I can. I also totally agree, I'd love to see more progress on Jon`C's project, it was looking really neat the last time I saw it (during the aforementioned "blow-up") and I'm really curious at where it's at. :D

Anyway, I guess that sums it up. Hopefully I don't get the boot for reviving an old thread. :P

Reviving old threads is fine as long as there's a good reason. And this is a great reason: so we can all talk about what horrible people we were as teenagers. God knows I can't stand to read anything I posted on Massassi back in the day... I was an insufferable tool and I honestly don't understand how anyone put up with me.
