So Scotland *might* decide to withdraw from the UK

Oh, and the Queen almost waded into politics. She has a rule where she doesn't actually do that.

nope.

Thanks for the updates, interesting stuff to read about leading up to voting day.

I'm a British citizen who wouldn't mind seeing you get your independence! Of course it wouldn't affect me much either way...
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Dominic West made some really dumb comment like "it's like a divorce, where one person wants to leave, but the other person knows they're better together"

Like um Dominic West that is the exact circumstances where a divorce is a good idea haha

The only beef I could have with this is that it might give scousers some ideas.

Honestly I'm ****ing sick of anyone outside Scotland making bloody Braveheart references.

It'd make people more likely to vote yes if they all showed The Iron Lady instead.
nope.

Polls open in 4.5 hours.

SQUEAKY BUM TIME.
nope.

On this day of utmost importance for the Scottish people, I'd just like to point out that I could have only one beef with a YES vote.

It might give the Manx some ideas.

Polls are closed, votes being counted.

Voter turnout percentages of the mid-high 80s being given.
nope.
2014-09-18, 8:58 PM #51
My instinct, based mostly on what I've learned from following polls in the U.S., is that the higher the turnout, the more likely it is that the pro-independence side pulls this off. Does that seem right, Boco?

But Michael MacFarlane, you forgot to consider the "Scotsman factor" in your prediction.

It would seem right from logic as the apathetic non-voters are generally the same people that would jump at the chance to rid us of the Tories, but right now the Yes camp is losing 46% to 54%.

It's dead, but I can't say I've ever really thought that they would clinch it.
nope.

:(
2014-09-18, 9:51 PM #55
Yeah, BBC has called it for No. And the Tories will get to slowly **** up a larger state instead of more rapidly ****ing up a smaller one.

Maybe the point is that the real harmful thing is plutarchy, and it doesn't much matter whether the plutarchs are men or women.

Now as this thread is being Reidjacked, I part with you, Baconfish, with these thoughts:

If Scottish independence had become reality, just imagine the type of ideas it could have given to Essex.

This morning Cameron gave details on his plans for a timetable for more devolution to Scotland, the N.Irish and Welsh assemblies, and some sort of deal with English only issues according to the cross-party vow that they were on about a week before the election.

It's been 9 hours and it looks like Labour and the Tories aren't going to play nice, and the Tory back benchers will probably revolt if Cameron tries to get it through the Commons.
nope.

It's already ****ed.

Just picture in your mind the image of Mel Gibson shrieking and twitching in agony.

If you like how that makes you feel, then consider watching the full film.

Picture showing William Wallace as not really landed gentry but some sort of man of the people, a Robert the Bruce that's made to appear practically honourable (as opposed to the completely slimy land-grabbing, power-hungry Norman that he was), some standard Hollywood homophobia and an English opponent who's basically the devil in chainmail, a crown and arched eyebrows.

The action's pretty fun though.

In interesting aftermath news, there's rumblings that the pro-independence parties may form some sort of alliance and stand for the UK general election in May, because Scottish Labour tore the arse out of their own base support on Thursday.
nope.

I'm not sure that the Scottish Nationalist and Socialist Parties joining together would generate quite the PR they're looking for :v:
