Eek my son burned so many hours on that game. I just don't get it.

I finally did beat Zelda a few days ago. The ending was oddly not satisfying. But I really really enjoyed the game. I got all the shrines, maybe 350 Korok seeds, and I did a bunch of side quests, but definitely not all of them. I "cheated" and used the internet to help me find about 15 of the 120 shrines, and also to help me figure out how to beat about 15 of the 120 shrines (not the same 15, probably). I didn't do any of the quests where you have to "gather 50 rushrooms" or other crap like that, because those are stupid. With the exception of the ones needed for armor upgrades (but except for dragon scales/teeth/etc., I already had most everything anyway). Great game, I strongly recommend it.

Sorry, don't know how to play this video :(

For old time's sake, I played a JK level I'd been meaning to check out.

This link's trying to download an unplayable(?) SWF onto my machine, but this worked for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vATBqkjZb38

As for the falling cargo ship, there is a secret route I believe that gets you there right away.

Speaking of force pull, I have been wondering: when I slaughter my disarmed foes (like animals), am I losing lightside points, just as if they were civilians? `Cause I feel there was some stinginess with the force stars later in the game and can't help but think this is why.

Huh, I literally tried to kill every civilian but I could still go lightside.

Currently on level 13 or so on Hard. The hard part of hard is strafing. Once you get it down you'll dodge most bullets.

I haven't used pull/persuasion that much.

Pfft, I'm on to TIE Fighter (1994 Collectors Ed., GOG). Runs brilliantly in Linux via Dosbox, helping me stop this ruinous Sepan Civil War.

Only flaw is the fairly large dead zone that either TIE Fighter or DOSBox seems to have hardwired into the joystick driver, which is apparently ignoring the Linux joystick API where I normally am able to calibrate it.

One thing I noticed about playing the game again after all these years, is how easily the dark jedi are defeated if you aren't a pussy and just go for the kill.

It's also amusing that you can just take out the conc and blow them up, which seems wrong.
2017-06-22, 4:41 AM #89
I somewhat distinctly remember trying to kill the Dark Jedi with a conc (namely Jerec), but I think it either did no damage or he Force Pulled it away. So after that incident, I never tried gunning them down again.

And I had no reason to doubt that guns wouldn't have worked against them, because in the Dark Jedi COGs you can clearly define what kind of damage they can receive.

And ever since then, all I ever seem to read about JK's Dark Jedis is "lol i just blew them up". MUCH CONFOOSE.

Well they certainly tale collision damage, so the sequencer mine explosion trick works by slamming them into a wall really fast.

Other than that, I think conc works on some of the earlier bosses? In any case Jones is right about being aggro, I beat both Yun and Pic and Gorc by just strafe+alt fire lightsaber.
2017-06-22, 8:26 AM #91
Also I think Jerec doesn't take explosion damage because it would be conceivable to save 30 sequencers until his level, drop all 30 in one spot while he meditates or whatever and one shot him.
2017-06-22, 8:34 AM #92
I guess in theory, they can be made immune to collision damage as well. Or maybe they were, but JKsuxed so bad that it didn't stick.

Namely, I had to remove the Temporarily Infinite Force Stamina items in TODOA because at one point you could spam Force Push so rapidly that when you killed the final boss with it (killed, as in: death animation playing, boss not attacking you anymore), the game didn't kill him all the way through (can't remember if his corpse disappeared or not) because the "killed:" section from the boss COG wasn't triggered due to the Force Push spamming happening too fast for JK to act.

(Of course, there are far, far, far easier things to do, if you want to mess JK up)

Given the invincibility cheat doesn't make you invincible to collision, I wouldn't be surprised if the game just sucked and wasn't coded properly for that.

I remember cog being a headache for anything that wasn't simple and intended.. yet somebody also coded a gravity gun so I probably just suck.

Hell, this muzzle flash mod on JKHub is quite the bee's knees. Showcased here in Elmo's fantastic The Lost Mercenary:

2017-10-21, 7:41 PM #98
No, if it were JK I would have been able to play it for more than five minutes without giving up because I died too easily.

Disclaimer (in case Elmo can read this): I suck at video games
2017-10-22, 12:29 AM #99
Also, I'm intrigued by this screenshot (and not due to the FOV letting you see through the gun's back).

[Unable to find specified attachment]

Keeping in mind that this is JK and thus shouldn't have any colored lighting at all (aside from sector tints), at least with this gun muzzle mod it seems that the flash or the bolt itself has a colored tint attached to it, so that the architecture briefly appears to be lit in a MotS/Unreal/every-other-goddamn-game-that-followed-JK-so-why-the-hell-did-people-complain-about-MotS's-colored-lighting-in-the-first-place-!-type fashion.

... Unless JK's dynamic lights have always had the tint option available, and I just haven't realized it 'til now. And if latter's true - oh the missed opportunities!

EDIT: Okay, after some testing, in all likelyhood it's just a residual lighting effect from the JK13-enhanced conc muzzle flash. Furthermore, the muzzle flash mod doesn't modify the templates and none of the templates for conc blasts have any RGB value effects going on.

You guys ever try setting the brightness of a vertex to a negative number?

Because I distinctly remember that doing this in JK (not MotS) turns it yellow. Well, at least it does this on a Voodoo 3. Somebody could try to reproduce it on other hardware.
2017-10-22, 12:53 AM #101
The color in that screenshot looks like a translucent surface floating in front of the gun, kind of like what you get in Saber Battle X saber effects.
2017-10-22, 1:07 AM #102
Yeah, I also realized that if for some odd reason dynamic lights had been capable of colored lighting all along... surely the effect would be present in 3rd person mode as well?

[Unable to find specified attachment]

So that settles it.

Also, at this point it's safe to say that making JK handle translucent surfaces overlapping better is never gonna happen. After all, technically this JK13 patch content was made by Xzero in 2010 and that was 7 years ago, and while JK's unofficial patches made major headway in 2003-2010, from 2010 onwards there's been nada.

Oh well.

So OG XBox games are starting to come out on XBox One. Haven't tried any yet but I think I have four of the twelve and only "finished" Kotor which can always be played again. Also, just watched the newest ape movie and see that there is an interesting game coming out for the franchise. Totally forgot to buy a bunch of stuff on sale on gog the other week.

The first few minutes are boring, so skip those. Start watching around 2:45 for one of the funniest ****ing things I've ever seen. The guy's head is so far up his ass and it's like a parody.

I really can't stand YouTube personalities. I hate all of them.

And not just the loony ones. Even if there was one going all "hey, let's donate money to FGR so he can make that eternity project of his", I'd still find something in anything to annoy the hell out of me.

No wonder I seem to be stuck with JK or DX when it comes to making something (and even DX has been sort of a hot potato from 2015 onwards, so I guess I'm left with JK!).

(not too fond of Vimeo personalities either)

Not being sarcastic here at all: I love this kind of post. I'm a pretty optimistic, carefree person. But all y`all's sourpuss rants give me the warm fuzzies every time.

Except when it's about some philosophical minutia or petty argument.

I guess at this point Massassi is like a retirement community, what with me moaning about "I hate [X] almost as much as [something obscure from 2002-2013]" and raving about "I COULDABEEN A CONTENDAH!". Occasionally someone will chime in with "yeah, yeah, take your pills" (or rather "yeah, yeah, hey look, someone mentioned DXN" to get me distracted).

(And, as Eversor once wrapped it up: no one comes to visit!)

2017-10-28, 3:02 AM #110
We're not a retirement community. JK was just the theme of the party, which has officially ended. Sure, there are some people who show up three hours late, wondering where all the guests have gone (like Koobie, when he came back to edit JK).

The people still here, on the other hand, are the kids at your parent's house who refuse to leave the party until physically kicked out. They sit around in a circle, carrying on a very, very weird conversation, fueled by sleep deprivation and soda pop.
2017-10-28, 4:17 AM #111
Then it's time to heat this party up.

I'll make an announcement on TODOA 6 - Ain't That A Twix within a timeframe.

Anyway, detour antics aside:

I never actually played through the original Half-Life (the furthest I got was at some point after the Marines knock Gordon out and throw him in some pit without his guns or whatever), but apparently you can play it smoothly on Android these days http://www.moddb.com/games/xash3d-android

(Quite rare for any project to have mostly 10/10 ratings, too. Sure, there are only 14 ratings altogether, but eh...)

Half life was too long for me to handle. I gave up when it got repetitive, oh, like 20 hours in.

There's a couple I don't hate, but generally yes, they suck. Especially when their avatar is a Simpsons-style drawing. What is this, 1998?

lol

I remember reading somewhere it was longer than most games. At any rate, I think I got 2/3 of the way through.
2017-10-28, 1:18 PM #118
What difficulty? It's like a 2 hour game on easy

wot
2017-10-28, 1:28 PM #120
I remember now.

Reid thinks that running past everybody counts as playing the game, just like he said about JK.

Yeah, no, at 11 years old, I wasn't no speedrun cam ho. It takes longer than two hours (wtf) to immerse yourself / kill every badie / generally get lost and do things like backtrack.
