At any rate, the game felt like it was taking 20 hours, and I called it quits when the monotony and feeling of sameness got the better of me.

Yeah, no, at 11 years old, I wasn't no speedrun cam ho. It takes longer than two hours (wtf) to immerse yourself / kill every badie / generally get lost and do things like backtrack.

I agree for immersion, if you're trying to play a game for story. But killing every baddie? What's the purpose of that?

That's fair. It does get a bit monotonous after a while.

Because if you don't they might sneak up and kill you in your sleep? Duh.

I mean, I assumed as much when I was a kid, insofar as my trigger finger impulses were trained.

I can relate to that.

Oh. Is that what your nick meant all this time?

I always assumed it was sort of in the vein of extreme* Doritos.

A classmate of mine actually suggested that nickname to me in 1999 or so because I typed fast. Somehow that translated into "playing games fast" and through more hoops, I added an extra R in the nickname when I joined Massassi. Wicked.

Then again, as a nickname FastGamer was still marginally better than MikeTheJedi

My team announced our game :D

That looks really good.

I dig it, what assets did you work on?
I had a blog. It sucked.

Thanks guys! I don't have an answer on platform exclusivity, unfortunately.

Almost all the environmental + prop materials--bricks, wood, rocks, mud, etc. Also did a lot of environmental models, all the doors and windows and light fixtures, roofing, vehicles, crates, etc. Also the main character's notebook :)

Do you like working w/ materials a lot? I find it super engrossing. There's something very satisfying about manipulating things to hit that "everything in its right place" level of verisimilitude w/ reality (or just any intended look).

Rendering has changed the way I think about photography and the way I look at stuff around me quite noticeably.

I do! I've done a lot of node-based work the past couple of years, also--first in Unreal's material editor and then in Substance Designer. Stuff like vertex painting for puddles, broken bricks, etc. has been really fun, and giving the other artists a big pack of materials and seeing how they use them is always really inspiring.

What a cool project to have worked on. I love the artistic direction and the innovative mechanics.

The artwork is nice too ;)

It looks really nice. The trailer makes me sad. I kept wishing he would pull out a knife and stab all the bullies in the face.
2017-10-31, 2:29 PM #138
wow, Brian
2017-10-31, 2:31 PM #139
Me too, I like murder.

Yeah, spoiler alert, Brian.

Anyway, I "Liked" it.

I mean I like a murdergame and the bullies did make me feel bullysad, but I don't want our hero to gore their faces.
2017-10-31, 3:01 PM #142
It's not murder, it's self defense. Or stand your ground. Or something.
2017-10-31, 3:29 PM #143
For a second there I'd assumed this game was going to take a fresh new tact contrary to the usual "haha let's blow their brains out" cliche.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Alt-right hate crime.

So, I actually watched all of the recent Star Citizen convention. Obsessive attention to detail that reminded me of Jon's pessimism regarding the game. I kind of lost track of how long ago I signed up for it but it's been five years. No regrets and up until now I didn't own anything I could run it on so this length of time doesn't concern me. Still, I did start to wonder while I was watching all of the amazing work they've done if it will actually ever really materialize.

Anybody else in on the game or thoughts?

Is this spam? Did he get paid to work from home to make a few coherent posts and then let a bot take over?
Sorry for the lousy German

Reads like a Markov chain. Maybe none of the posts were real, if the bot was groking in forum posts to generate its own variations.

This post is sponsored by raycon and their new wireless headphones. Got ambushed by a tech company too cheap to put a headphone jack on their $1200 phone? Try cramming these in your ear holes.
