I see my name popped up in this thread. Rest assured that my lack of posting is just a general fatigue towards participating here that's not majorly driven by the general atmosphere. In my very limited browsing of the forums over the past many months, or more even, I've probably noticed a half dozen references to me so I assume I've missed more than that. I could only be bothered to respond to a couple because they were either fabricated or out of context and even then I couldn't be bothered to explain the provided quote in one instance even though it would only have taken two or three sentences to do it. There was some "republican money cuck" (?) comment that I almost acknowledged, in a Star Wars thread of all places I believe, but I never did reply.
I do think the biggest problem we have on this forum is Reverend Jones. That's actually a good thing that that's the biggest problem because there have been far worse ones in the past. This also isn't meant as a personal attack but, I guess, more as constructive criticism. I don't know if the posting method is similar to some of the other sites he frequents but his barrage of posts, one after another consecutively with no posts between them, is just plain dumb. I mean, there is an edit button. Beyond that, though, I think he has some pretty un-mentally-healthy habbits that he should try to break. I know that sounds inflammatory but it isn't meant to be and I'll explain.
One of my initial impressions of him (and my bringing this up will annoy him) was a comment of his in a thread about a bombing in NYC I think. It was one of these events where somebody did something bad and the far left was out there speculating it was some Tea Partyer mad about something. Of course, as usual, it turned out that the perpetrator was from one of the routine few categories. Anyway, he made a comment along the lines of how horrible it was that some [right winger] mad about taxes would do this. He was challenged and apologized saying he had some bad information. Of course that acknowledgement was an admirable thing. But his coming across that information and repeating it always made me question his decision making and fact finding processes.
To be clear, I don't question his academic intelligence but I really think he engages in too much curiosity with fringe groups and opinion that is unhealthy to his mind and sense of well being. Quite frankly, I think this fueled much of his prolific posting in several threads even when not related at all to the topic. Except I think that has probably lessened now because there's less posting in general. In my case I know I was tired of the mundane psychobabble but, clearly, some of you like to entertain it. I'm guessing that Brian shares a general sense of fatigue with the conversation here as well while I am certainly not saying he shares any of my opinions made in this post.
And I do agree with Jon's sentiment about wanting to post about the things he's passionate about. He should but I will admit that I was a little surprised to see how much he is willing to engage in the sort of conversation I'm referencing. But maybe many of you are okay with it and that's absolutely fine. I gently brought up this issue in a thread about whether some method of limiting posts should be enacted (not entirely seriously but it was a soft reference to what I see as a problem) and the general consensus was that we needed more, not less, posting. Well, how's that working out?
I never left this place because I've always appreciated the relatively small and diverse population and the conversation was usually pretty interesting. You know how we occasionally get one of those members from the late 90s early 00s pop in and there's plenty of reminiscing among us? Well, if one of them drops in again I hope they don't check out the Trump thread first because they probably won't bother to post.
Anyways, I've probably come across harsher than I intended so I apologize if my comments seem like an attack to anyone. I've also probably hit my word count quota for this rest of the year so I do wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and have a great New Year's!
