Yes Schming, it does sound much better traditionally irish and accentish and all.. but Metallica's version just kinda stands on its own if you don't mind it kinda being a very different genre of music.

I don't know about the best cover, but I would say that "Garage Inc." by Metallica is the best cover album.

Good covers from anywhere include:

Guns N' Roses - Knockin' on Heaven's Door
KoRn - One (though they stop just before the best bit [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif])
Metallica - Sabbra Cadabra

------------------
GhostOfYoda - General doer of stuff.

Abomination? It was the same song, except the speed was increased times 20. Hey, it wasn't as bad as the Lagwagon cover of Brown Eyed Girl.

As far as The Man Who Sold the World goes, I don't think I could judge the original objectively. It's quite possible that I would have liked it more if I heard it first, but I think Nirvana's version is more haunting.

I have to add that Hootie and the Blowfish have an awesome live cover of Crowing by Toad the Wet Sprocket. I downloaded it somewhere, I don't know how easy it would be to find.

Jane's Addiction did a nice cover of Sympathy for the Devil.
