Powerful songs
2004-09-19, 5:53 PM #1
What are your favorite songs that give you goosebumps because of the sheer power of it? You know, songs that build up until the final climax that makes you just go "wow". I love music like that.

I would song the bands Elliott and The Burning Paris make the most powerful music. The way they incorporate strings into their music is amazing, and really hits home.
"I'm afraid of OC'ing my video card. You never know when Ogre Calling can go terribly wrong."

^^^ - nice :)

"Wisdom of the Kings" and "Holy Thunderforce" by Rhapsody
"Sultans of Swing" by Dire Straits. Live 10 minute version, with the piano interlude. The solo just takes me away every time.

Amsterdam - Coldplay

It may not seem like a very powerful song, but when those drums kick in it just sets everything off and makes me feel all tingly. If I listen to it when I'm being moody it brings me close to tears.

Immortal Technique - Dance with The Devil

This song, is so disturbing that I find it hard to even listen to it... My heart races and I start to get all sweaty. This song tells one of the most grusome true stories I've ever heard. Shall I admit it, and say this song has scary lyrics?

I already had a 10 minute version, but without a [piano] solo. So I found that one, and I think the first one I had is better... so if you can, find the other version; it's even better!

I've got four different live versions :) I like the televised 10 minute solo version, with the piano interlude. There's a live mp3, played the same way, 'cept much to fast, and with all the people screaming, it's just not the same. Look for Dire Straits live videos, you might come across it.

Jean-Michel Jarre: Ethnicolor
At least after the opening part, then it's pure powerful synth madness. And f***ing great.

John Williams: The Battle of Yavin
Found this greatness after watching the movie again, it's so... so... powerful. Yeah. I guess that's what this thread is about. Powerful songs.

John Williams: The Imperial March
Duh.

Vangelis - End Titles of Blade Runner
More powerful synth madness. Especially the one on the early bootleg version of the Blade Runner OST... yes.

Frank Klepacki - Hell March
Every war would be better with this one playing... :D

Geinoh Yamashirogumi - Tetsuo
Maybe gets a little long and boring on some parts, but there are some parts with power flowing through it. Yes...
Star Wars: TODOA | DXN - Deus Ex: Nihilum

I read the lyrics to that. It is pretty disturbing.

Holy carp... then what would you call powerful? Thanks for listening to it, all the same.

"Get over regrets
While you were sleeping with the angels
he was under the bed
And the more skin you shed
The more that the air in the throat would linger when you call him your friend"

That last line gets me every time. And then there's

"Staring at a cold little hand
Reading fault lines
Of a shell of a man
You were waiting for a word from above
Wouldn't you know it
No answer ever did come"
It's not the side effects of cocaine, so then I'm thinking that it must be love

The song was just really bland apart from the lyrics. It was really lacking a hook. For me, a powerful song makes me want to cry, kick something, or shout (in a good way). Sad. Mad. Super Happy. If a song doesnt make me feel one of those 3 ways then it's not really powerful.

Here's more of mine:

Starsailor - Born Again
Keane - Bedshaped
Snow Patrol - Run
