Do you listen to Classical Music?
2006-01-19, 6:48 PM #1
Thought this was a very Star Wars related question, thtat's why I posted here. It seems that Star Wars and only a a handful of other movies are our real exposure to the genre.

Only John Williams and the occasional Danny Elfman for me. What do you listen to?

Yes, I even play it with an orchestra.

I listen to a lot of Bach. Other than that, I don't think I really pay attention to who it is.

Some, but you might want to check the Music Forum. There's been a few threads on/similar to this, though not lately I don't think.

There was a similar topic back in September, but no poll. Dang, I wish I made this poll public.

I like Williams and Elfman a whole lot, along with such classical monuments as Tchaikovski, Korsakov, Beethoven, Bach, Holst, and Metallica.....erm, no. :o

Stuff from Beethoven to Elfman to E.M. Posthumus and back to Rodriguez. I have no problem at all with making the assertion that anyone who doesn't like some form of classical musical has no taste in music.

Yes... alot actually. Infact I play some Star Wars song on a guitar, such as the whole "force theme" and the Imperial march. I have a friend that can play Battle of the Heroes though, and on an electric guitar TOO!
Nothing to see here, move along.

Mostly soundtracks

But I do know a rock block of Bach that I learned in a school, called the school of hard-knocks

How can people hate classical? I'm pretty sure it's one of the seven deadly sins. The ammount of work and the amazing sounds that classical music can make is amazing. If you can listen to a crappy rap song that some hippy made in 20 mins and is making millions for, you should be able to appreciate the epic that is classical!

Because classical isn't for everyone. It's called having differing tastes. Some people dislike classical, that's fine. Some people listen to ****ty rock, that's fine. Some people listen to ****ty techno, that's fine. It's all up to the person.

THIS kind of thinking (though I'm...somewhat sure you're joking) is closed-minded as ****. And in music, that is NEVER a good thing.

This should have been a public poll so we can lynch the one voter who hates classical.

I am a classical machine. Mozart, Beethoven, Liszt, Chopin, Vivaldi, Debussy, Holst, Johann De Mej, Gershwin, Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Handel, etc.

Classical is a timeless genre. It never gets old, ever.

Also, I spend a lot of time listening to some of these artists:

Wrong forum.

I'm not really a classical music fan, but John Williams is quite good and I have somewhat good amount of it so it's good.

Old stuff, like Bach I don't generally like (There's some, but not much).

New stuff, like E.S. Posthumus, anything composed by John Williams, Howard Shore, ocremixes, and other things, I do like.

I can't stand John Williams anymore.

Now this is a guy who I could get stuck with on a deserted island. And supermodels of course. And an exciting, twisting plot that makes you want to watch the next episode.

Most of the CDs in my collection are classical music. Although many of them were received as gifts and presents.

Having said that, I suppose it would be redundant to say which option I voted for...

I'm a music major. Of course, I like classical.

Nobuo Uematsu and some John Williams.

There wasn't a choice for "Listen to it occasionally"

Yeah, I like J. Williams, the Lord of the Rings dude, plus classics, mainly the german guys.

Very little, but not necessarily John Williams. Generally movie and game soundtracks, actually (especially Harry Gregson-Williams). Although I don't listen to classical music voluntarily I don't object to it, either.
2006-01-20, 7:16 AM #32
A lot, actually. Usually when reading a book. Mussorgsky and Okko Kamu more than others.
2006-01-20, 1:32 PM #33
Not too much. My favorite classical composers are John Williams and John Barry (wrote the great scores for the first 16 Bond films).
2006-01-20, 1:35 PM #34
If you guys like John Williams, you should listen to The Planets by Gustav Holst. He was the biggest influence to movie soundtracks. John Williams basically ripped all three Star Wars soundtracks straight from The Planets.

Fine, highly influenced.

Actually I also wanted to see how many people would deny it because they love John Williams so much. :p

No, I HATE classical music, bring on the heavy stuff like Yngwie Malmsteen and Adagio!
2006-01-20, 2:22 PM #38
I love classical. I love all music, really.

But classical is timeless.

In Arthur C. Clarke's Rendevous with Rama(read this book) there is a part where they are walking down this giant space cylinder, and there is dead silence. They try to hum, to break up the monotony, but nothing does it justice, something grand like that deserves the timeless grandeur of classical and not trivial pop culture.
