Rome wasn't built in a day...
2003-06-01, 6:22 PM #1
...this was.

[EDIT: Check below for updated shots]

And no, it's not going to be Rome, or Roman, or anything like that. I was just using the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (...Roman version...) as a base which I then modified for my needs. The problem is that this thing is HUGE and detailed to hell in back...as it is, when I'm in game, sometimes brushes disappear when I turn in certain ways. Anyone know how to fix that?

Anyway, lighting is temporary, Skybox is probably temporary, statues are probably temporary, hell, whole level might be temporary if I can't fix this annoying problem.

Looking for better marble texture, too.

... Holy hell... by far one of the sexiest JO level I've seen in a long time.. no, ever. Not sure what's causing the disappearing brushes, but a low ambient light level might get rid of the solid black shadows.

.. wow!

That's some awesome detail. But it needs some variance. Put some plants or something in there, to add color. How long did that take you?!

Yeah guys, it's definitely not done...adding ground under it, for instance...

and the marble will probably stay as the base of the thing, but I'm going to add some more detailed textures on the columns, and experiment with some other marble textures.

I'd definately say it needs a lot more texture variation. It looks cool, but you cannot get a real feel of depth with just one texture. I also seriously recommend getting rid of the skybox.

Hey, SotD, cool.
Anyway, got the new skybox working (thanks to Gonk for the help)...and don't worry, it fits with the theme of the level. I'll add more shots when I add some color to this, but I wanted to show off the new skybox

Make the buildings int he skybox more like greece or something(or anythign old) and i will love it. right now it looks like its acient rome surrounded by area in a time warp. but if that is what you are going for, go right ahead.

[edit]i did read what you said abot it fitting with the theme, but im nto too sure that it does[/edit]

Looks beautiful, Darko. A modification of Cazor's suggestion: turn it into a burning Rome, if you can, lending it a bit of an armageddon atmosphere to it.

It's not rome. What it is is a monument in the middle of a city that has just been attacked (...it's a SW story...)

Looks really good, the level itself is nice and detailed. My only gripe would be the textures (which, i know, people have already commented on) They just seem too low-res from the pics, either scale them down or replace them.

..I don't think I would've noticed the repeating textures had others not pointed it out, but even then they look ok

Thanks guys...I AM looking for a better marble texture...near the color of the one I'm using...and some column textures...so if anyone has any, feel free...meanwhile, here are some new shots. I'm going for the nazi look. The NPCs there are just place-holders (and I have that dragon remix thing running, that's why they look weird)

I'm impressed... Keep up the good work. Oh, and a little note, you may already be doing this, but, I think you should please yourself and release a level you like. Not a level based upon stuff people say it should have. I don't know what your going for, but from where I sit, it works perfectly.

Ok, I d/led the gun mod but it only works in the default SP level pack. If I try to use it with my custom maps, it says "JO has encountered an error and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvienience." Bull****, that gun is awesome, I need it.

I had a similar problem with my abandoned DotF map. Smart use of Detail brushes fixed the problem.

Every brush that isnt touching a void (outside area of grey nothingness in radiant) should be a detail brush. also saves A LOT of time for compiling.
