Skybox isn't mine, skybox stays, cope.

Anyway, my level now has the one thing it was missing: NUDITY. Model isn't mine, got it at a q3 model site

Sorry to say, but the nude statue isn't too great IMO. I know I'm being harsh about little things but still...

Sorry guys, I appreciate the offer, but I don't think I'll be joining.

And Hard Driver, I dunno what your problem is, but take it elsewhere. Besides, everyone else I've shown it to likes it, and most importantly I like it, so it's staying the way it is. You want a better level, go download radiant.

Ok, I need opinions here...it was suggested that I add black marble...but I'm not completely sure about it...here are two shots

I made a backup right before I added the black, so it's no big deal for me to revert back to the plain white.

I think it looks much better. But I also think the angel statues don't look so good. The model itself isn't very good, and the textures themselves are blurry and lack detail. Plus I don't think they fit in with the rest of the monument thing. I just don't normally associate angels with Imperial banners and sith statues. Just my two cents.
2003-06-03, 7:08 AM #48
The black marble looks GREAT for certain places, such as on the support holding up the statue.. but I think you would do well to change the black marble on the far right and left (large pillars) back to white. I do think the black right above those pillars (in the triangular-shaped recess) looks good though. I'm all for the extra texture variation wherever possible.

It's not an imperial monument.

And do you mean the square pillars right under the triangular section?

[EDIT]

Ok, option 1 or option 2:

That shouldn't be the only criteria on using detail brushes, otherwise you'll may end up with pretty bad framerates (at least on modest computer systems). Any wall, floor, or ceiling that is meant to block visibility should be left as a structural brush. In your map I would make all columns detail, all of the pedestals detail, and any fancy wall bevels that do not touch the void detail. You can also make all the stairs detail, but you have to make sure there is a flat sloped structural brush underneath the stairs first. Most of this detail/structural brush placement will give the most fps boost in indoor levels. Standard quake3 bsps aren't optimised for outdoor levels, fps-wise.

HORRIBLE IDEA. ABSOLUTLY HORRIBLE!

If you do that, yes, your map compiles quickly, but you know what else happens? Your r_speeds goes through the roof, and your framerate through the floor!

Making everything a detail brush but those which enclose the level is forcing JO to render every part of the entire level at once. It won't know how to block parts of the level that shouldn't be drawn.

Structural brushes should be the main structural parts of a level. Like for a house, the outer walls of the house would be struct, and all the walls encasing the bedrooms, kitchen, etc. would all be struct. Detail brushes would be things like a desk, a chair, a computer, a lamp, etc. If you had a bedroom with the walls being structural, and assuming the door had an areaportal, nothing would be rendered outside of the room. However if everything was detailed, the whole house would be drawn at once.

Oops, didn't see Zy's post...

Anyways, I like the new color scheme.

You can probably up the resolution of the low res rock textures by going into PSP, doubling the image size, sharpen (optional) then JPEG artifact removal, then another sharpen (optional). Worked really well to get Tee's Egyptian textures from JK up to 512x which I used in a JO level I made well over a year ago.

Out of your two options, I'd say I like option two better, but I think option three might look good as well: Try making the thicker 'ends' of (all) the pillars black, leaving white in the middle. Keep up the good work. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Darko: level looks fantastic, especially with the whole overcast/war theme. I dont know if it fits into your plan for the level, but if the place is under attack, a few broken pillars, craters or chunks out of the structure might not look too bad. Or maybe it would, depending on what you want for this section. Either way it looks great.

Would you mind telling me where you got the textures for your skybox (the one with the buildings in the background)?

Ok, I settled on a mixture of both options...and I added the black part at the top. Also, I changed the phantom statue to something that fit the theme of the monument better.

This is a constructive gripe. Ignore me.

That would be great if you cut it in half and did something different on one side...or the other. Plus round collumns!

Darko, you seem be taking my constructive criticism badly. I never said the level was bad at all, I just don't like the skybox and the nude statue is only okay IMO. Sorry I didn't say "OMQ great job" before, but personally I'm sick of having to post that every time I see a well-done level [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]. Mostly now I focus more on what I think needs improvement. Despite small problems, I like the look of the level so far.

Holy W00tN3zz.

This level looks awesome. I especially like the dark, apocolyptic, foreboding look of everything, from the demon statue to the exploding angel statues, along with the mix of white and black marble.

I can't wait to download this...Any idea of release date?

Release date? Well, that depends...

My plan is that this will be part of an SP level, BUT I am notorious for failing at finishing those. So, if I end up failing, I'll just release this thing as a duel map.

But I'm really hoping for the SP.

You should override the chunk code of those breakables (increase density in the ent properties), it would look better.
