A shot of Cazor, Pommy, and I playing.
JO seems to be crashing on me with this particular map. JO has never crashed on me before. Also, should I be getting 25 FPS on this map? I don't have my settings cranked way high. And I have a GeForce4 Ti 4200 w/ 128 MB DDR.

Patches result in high tris, which results in low framerate. Use some brushes instead of patches.

Cazor, this may sound like a difficult thing to do, but please hear me out. I like how you can break the railing in one spot and break two of those pillars. However, those appear to be the only two parts of the map you CAN do that to. If you made it so that the entire map could be literally blown to pieces (i.e. cutting circles all the way down the railing and making all the pillars breakable) the "whoa, cool" factor would increase by a million jillion kazabaquillion. And make shiny shaders!
2003-07-10, 7:47 PM #5
Yeah... i kinda hve to use patches for the handrails... but i guess i can get rid of some other ones. and thrawn... ill try to understand that and get back to you tomorrow.

Oh yeah... there also is ingame music to this level. Could that be making it crash?

You don't have to use patches for anything.

Just make sure you turn on phong shading so it doesn't get fugly.

Yes.. i need to use patches for a few things in the this map. I hated the way it looked before with the brushes on the curved walls and such.

It looks very nice, good work. However, from the movie the Chateau was a little wider. I managed to find a picture of it online (after Neo killed everyone sadly).

Okay, completely ignore me then!

*Sigh* At least put -patchmeta in the BSP phase.

Doesn't anyone else find it odd that he's using a Star Trek skin while playing a Matrix level in a Star Wars game? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/confused.gif]

Ok.. a looong time ago we had this widening discussion. It was way too skinny back then, then i widened it and most everyone said it was good. I am done with making this room bigger.

I'm sorry cazor, but those textures make the level look absolutely horrible. the archi is fine, the textures just suck completely. (solid color=bad)

I agree. He insists that there is detail, but that's clearly crap.

Why is solid color == bad? What do you do if you need a solid color?

Seconded. Infact, I was under the opinion that the textures you are using now are mainly just place holders. Please tell me I'm right...

Solid colors are bad if you don't have a shader to make them look shiny like they really are. But in this case, it's not supposed to be flat to begin with. Just because you don't see any detail in a tiny 400x300 photo which was taken from the distance to begin with doesn't mean there isn't any detail.

Off topic: For whatever reason when I try to add music oto my level it doesn't want to work. Anybody think they know why.

I've told Cazor on multiple occasions that the textures needed to be redone. He doesn't want to. I'd just let it go.

I suggest putting a little more detail into this map instead of making the pillars "faster." Also, are there any logical light sources? Nice foundation, though.

I've redone the textures. It's still hard to tell at a distance, but even in the movie the surfaces seemed pretty flat. I also finished the ginormous (1024 x 2048)floor texture. It looks pretty good. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] Now we just need to add a relfective shader and it'll be like magic. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Too bad JO doesn't support anything past 1024x1024. You'll have to split it up into two textures.

Actually, you can try 1024x2048. Q3's not supposed to go about 1024, but maybe JO is different.

I did a Google image search for Matrix Reloaded in an attempt to get some images of this level for references.

The one right above shows a closer view of the painting in the background. Sadly, those were the only good ones I could find, most of them were the one I already posted of Neo standing there.

Cazor, the new Q3Map2 2.5.5-test10 fixes some -patchmeta issues, you may be able to do -patchmeta and -subdivisons 12 again without problems.
