Hi all- these are some screens of a new CTF/FFA map I have tentatively titled Nightfall, after an old Dark Forces mod (yes, I said Dark Forces) I did a while back called The Dark Tide II: Nightfall. The layout is based on an Imperial Garrison on Tatooine commanded by Prefect Talmont. I plan to us all my own textures as well.

A Battle of Gall mp3 might accompany this.

First and second shots look incredible, but the skybox is too obvious in the second.

Yeah, that rock canyon texture I cobbled together from some some substandard reference.
I need better photos.

I think you would need to see the skybox ingame. It looks better.

Looks good . better than the stuff that cam with the game. does it run very well? whats the frame rate.

very nice, I love the skybox. Did you make it?

and since you said you'll be useing all your own textures I'll assumer that some of those in the third shot atleast will be changing.

Yeah most of the textures will be replaced. I will only not bother to change the basemetal ones from the game. The skybox I did in Bryce and Photoshop. I have since altered that cavern rock texture. I also thought it was too orange. The strange thing is in reality, the rocks are really that orange, but it just doesn't suit Tatooine.

This map is a bit more challenging then a number of others. I run it on a PIII 1.4 GHz machine with a GeForce 3 card and I get around 50-60 FPS in the shuttle pad/cavern areas and it drops down between 30-40 FPS around the main garrison building. I played it online with a friend who started a server on his 1.8 GHz/Geforce 3 system and 4 bots and it didn't give us any problems and we had fun- so I'm happy!

On a side note, we play the Duel of the Fates map too, and that probably runs half as well!

Tracer is obviously smoking something. That is the most beautiful skybox I've ever seen. It fits in perfectly. Wonderful work on the interiors!

I just noticed, isn't the rocket launcher a forcejump only power-up?? As well,if yu start with it on top of the building, it gives you quite an advantage right away...

No, there is an elevator to the roof, so the rocket is available that way.

No no, I meant that in the second shot, you can see where the geometery ends and the skybox starts.

That's really impressive. The only problem is the rocks, they're not as good as they could be. The rest is Raven-quality.

Yeah, I am thinking of redoing the canyon walls in either 3DS Max or EasyGen. I feel like I might get more control in Max. I guess EasyGen first and see how it goes.

You can use Max, but making the metashaders is more difficult. I assume it will be ported to JA, right? JA should make it easier to do that.

As for what Tracer was saying... I believe that's a cliff, not the edge of the skybox. As for the rocks, they don't seem to orange, but too bright or something... like too much contrast and some brightness added in.

And he could use a portal sky that looks more like his terrain as of now, instead of that beggar's canyon-ey look. Unless this map is set on a large plateau or something, then its perfect.

When i'm back on broadband i'd love to help you perfect the gameplay. If you decide to release this for JA, I have the right level of influence in the competitive community to get this map played extensively.

Are you sure that vehicles can't be fought with in JA?

Patrick, I really like your map. I like having indoors and outdoors like that, and I like the fact that all of the areas seem to have a use.

They can, but you don't use vehicles in competetive play, other than Siege maybe.
