Thats purdy. Though that part in the middle looks way out of place. Looks like that 'no texture found' error.

This will be fixed as well.

I'll show you in the chat. It should take about twenty minutes, real easy, and will probably render faster.

Cool! I want to know how to do ARIOCHE. You should make a tutorial or something...

I've got the _blocksize up to 8192, _farplanedist is 17000, and yet still I get this draw distance error on the terrain. And it gets weirder. If I'm waltzing around down on the lower part of the terrain, you can actually turn your view and watch the hills suddenly appear and disappear like magic. It's crazy. I'm going to try ARIOCHE to see if I can save the current setting (and hopefully keep the metashader as well), and if that doesn't work then I'm going to HAVE to do a foghull, because there's literally no other way to prevent the player from seeing this, and it is simply not acceptable. Especially when you consider that my r_speeds are in the 15k range already... and I've got a lot more to do yet.

More weirdness. I opened up the hoth siege map (provided by Raven with the beta version of GTKRadiant 1.3.12), and there's some interesting keys in worldspawn. Namely "distancecull" and "chopsize", which relate to _farplanedist and _blocksize, respectively. At least as far as I can tell. The explanation provided in the entities window sounds exactly the same.

The odd thing is that when I try to compile using those keys, the BSP part of the compile crashes outright. Gives me a lovely XP "omgomgomgwtf this thingy crashed" error reporting window, and then closes down the q3map2 commandline window.. only to have the vis and light windows open up sequentially and act as if nothing has happened. Removed said keys, and the compile went fine.

Here's more weirdness. Compile with distancecull and I cannot use chopsize NOR _blocksize. Period. BSP process just crashes. Weirdness abounds. When the hell is Raven getting this SDK out, ******? I need documentation.

I wonder if ARIOCHE is easy to use. I'm getting tired of screw-ups with Easygen...

Wellllll... distancecull got rid of the draw distance error. It upped the bsp size and increased compile times (mostly in vis) because I can't use _blocksize or chopsize to go above the default BSP blocksize of 512 units, but it WORKS. THAT'S WHAT MATTERS. Now I can get some actual work done.

Very nice, but the terrain texturing looks very repetitive.

Textures are only 256x256, or at least 2 of 'em are.. I need to find bigger textures.

Nice as always Gonk. I wish I had your knack for texturing. You always seem to have the "less is more" approach, and you always put out awesome looking maps. I tend to go more overboard with Textures... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

I retextured the terrain. Bigger textures = less blotchy + less noticeably repeated. Sine just figured out portal skyboxes, so that's next on my list.

What program did you use for the terrain? (I assume Easygen)

Edit: Actually you did use Easygen, nevermind.

Skybox is partially done.

I've got some other stuff I want to add to it, although as of yet I dunno where to get it.. I want to put a nice Corellian Corvette or something hanging overhead in the skybox (and thus over the level), and yet, there's no Corellian Corvette models. At all.

So I figured I'd toss this out to the modelers here at Massassi: If you can make a Corellian Corvette (and, if at all possible, even get it textured), I'd choose my favorite and slap it in the skybox, obviously with a big thanks to you, and I'll probably let you beta the level as well. (I'd give more but, that's pretty much the best I can do.) So if any modelers out there are bored.. give it a shot. Just make it an .md3, and have it around the standard limit for a non-player model in JO, which is, I think, the 2500 poly mark.. or something. I dunno, not a modeler.

Oh, I'm also working on the skybox lighting. The level is VERY VERY dark right now.. mostly due to the fact that the sky is bright blue, and the rest of the level is a dark brown/orange scheme.. I'm tweaking the lights on the skybox to see if I can get less stark shadow and some more, well, light. It's just not bright enough if you ask me.

Comments?

Other than the difference in color for the portal sky terrain and the acual map terrain, it looks awesome. Might wanna make the portal sky terrain more brown so it blends with the real stuff better.

Nifty!

Maybe you can find a converter to convert GoZ's JK Corvette to a standrard format, and convert it from there to an md3?

Yellowed the lighting a bit to make the entire level brighter, changed the sky shader, messed with the skybox a bit, changed the grass texture to one Zully made me (which I hope he'll modify to be a bit browner), changed the dirt texture to something browner, added in entity suns to give me a bit more control over lights... (the lighting is also coming from a different direction now.)

The Tiger striping on the rock textures I'm gonna work on.. possibly by introducing yet another rock texture or something. I also need to get the shadows to not fall off so immediately so that you can actually see the rear of those 4 massive tower things... because they're literally pitch black right now. A radiosity build may or may not help that cause.

Penumbra isn't in 2.5.8, is it? I thought that was for 2.5.9 or whatever the next version would be..?

Edit: Nevermind it is in 2.5.8. I'm going to play with the settings a bit, see what I can get.
