Scopes are used on machineguns such as the M249 basically as a guide as to where to aim the tracers and cover an area, it's not like you'd try to snipe with it. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Anyway, though, I havn't gotten my private beta yet, so you surely won't get it yet

That's amazing that you fit that many polies into game, but I think you could keep the weapon's level of detail with a lower amount of polies. It's a good gun, but what makes it look good is the texturing. The geometry is too much I think.

BTW this is just a small thing, but do the SG teams use Para's or SAW's? I don't know my gun stuff for sure, but I thought the SAW was a version of the M249 made for the US military(like i said, I'm not sure so tell me if I'm wrong)? I know that sounds really picky, but just to be true to the show or real life.

I thought they used p90's... which Ruthervain already made...

M249 is heavy duty, in most games it's good for making noise and scaring n00bs, in real life it's good for cutting things in half!

I'm no gun expert either, but I heard that you're more likely to survive several shots from a p90 where 1 shot from the para would tear you apart.

As far as the geometry, GREAT work, it's about time someone made some new, high definition models for JK, how you pushed JK past its limits confuses me though... you must have made more than 3do's and mats.

This thread looks pretty active to me, especially since I still have an unanswered question "how did you do it" I am not joking or saying that in awe, seriously tell me what you did. How about we don't hijack this thread with "look at me I want to be a moderator too!!!1" posts such as "LOCK IT NOW!!!1" and let the real moderators decide when it is "dead" because what you're doing now is creating more work for them when they have to delete your off-topic thread, they don't need you to point out that the topic is past its life and they will lock it when they feel it's expired. You are not a moderator so don't waste peoples time. Until that when this topic is dead/locked, lets stay on it... keep up the good work Ruthervain! how did I do it?

I took reference images of the M429 para from multiple angels, modeled it in milkshape, then using the same reference pics, I made new textures (about 4 256x256 in all) and slapped em on!
Then I added the gun 3do export to my default jksg1 arm models, regrouped it, keyframed it, modified the p90 code...

and fanny's your aunt!
Code:
if(getThingFlags(source) & 0x8){
  do her}
elseif(getThingFlags(source) & 0x4){
  do other babe}
else{
  do a dude}
2004-07-31, 5:52 PM #114
I suspected you of using Milkshape3D, that just doesn't seem possible in the latest public version of JED.

Actually I was curious to how you got so many faces in one 3do "eg: Gun model = 4000 polies
Arm model = 1500 polies, JK's limit 300(?) polies", I see people talking about multiple meshes but I thought only one was allowed in weapons models. Then again I have never tried anything like that with an internal model...

Anyway, I'm just a n00b. Looks nice! Way more detail than even a lot of modern games!

Uh, don't preach to me, I was obviously making funny with my posts, and you really have no idea how much more than you I know about the 'work.' Reason why this needs a new thread, is that Rutherven has more to show, and it'd be a waste to renew this thread. Also, this thread has survived an entire other post for the mod, only because of the moderator's lack of a new SotD. Not to mention, Rutherven wants to delete this thread, but he can't with the recent disabling of the deleting of threads.

Seriously, why do you people want to keep something alive when it isn't even helpful to the creator? We post our models and our in-game shots to get criticism to make it BETTER, not just for your countless 'omg kewl' posts.

Closed on Ruthervain's behalf.
A desperate disease requires a dangerous remedy.

A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that it gives people what they want instead of what a particular group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.
