Something looks really weird about the in-game pic. It almost looks shiney!

Your model rocks, but in game it DOES look like plastic :|, which isn't your fault, it's Doom 3's. (I'm not starting an argument I'm just saying what I see)

it looks shiney because its slimey and gooey. it's a friggin deamon... im sure its gonna be gooey/juicy.

Actually since there is little documentation on doing this, I'm going by trial and error and there are some problems to be worked out. Its shiney like that because its using the original normal maps atm. I have custom normal and specular maps made, but I can't figure out how to get the game to use them. So for now, I'm working on animations.

I dunno what those holes are SAJN, id designed the character, ask them :P

They've always been there on the cacodemon... as to what they are, that's best left up to the imagination.

Shred I need to look for the link but I found a forum that had a board on texturing in Doom 3. They had a bunch of tutorials on specular maps and stuff.

You should consider dulling the intensity of the red, perhaps to a more brick red color. I would just use the hue/saturation with red and take down the saturation. A bright red just doesn't seem fitting in the new generation of Doom. Also look to give it more of a skin like texture.

Yeah, a totally new version of them. They look nothing like the old ones, except for round and floating.

Someone is making a doom 1 ep 1 remake. Can't remember the site though. They have e1m1 in the beta stages.

I think it looks awsome, but the bubbly oily effect you used on his skin is also on his horns. Make his horns more boney than gooey looking.

I think it looks great but needs asymetric textures, especially on the eye, and it looks too shiny in-game but you're working on that.

What you need is the Pain Elemental. Those were a nightmare to fight, but I loved the mouth texture when they opened up. But the cacodeamon, I like cept the holes in the back and ingame looks like its covered in oil. Its a great model nonetheless.

the doom1 remake is TOO true to the original... making it look ugly... like the sludge room in e1m1... the walkway would look better if the edges matched the texture... and more detail could be put into it without killing the feel of the levels

anyway nice model.. can't wait to see it with the proper specular and normal maps... and i think maybe the 2 holes are there for propulsion(sp?) ... maybe it moves along by farting

the current d3 cacos look like floating dinosaur heads

Heres what he looks like with custom normal maps! (working on the specular) Right now the normal maps are creating a seam, I'll fix that. And it turns out the "plastic" look is directly related to the specular maps.

i dont wanna be nitpicky, cuz the cacodemon looks incredible, but maybe if you make the four horns on teh top more curvy and brittle looking itll dramatically increase the overall evilness. looks awesome either way.
