Some of you may have seen my last showcase for this contest, but I don't think I have time to finish it by the cut-off date, so... I made a death match style map really quick with fast-pace intended.

That red glowy thing in the middle will be a location of teleportation where you will come to from the upper level.

This screenshot gives you an idea of how the layout is set up.

Now here we see one of the green glowing doors. They will be the destination of teleporters that are in the hallways that you can see glimses of in the other screenies.

In my opinion the colors don't go together at all, making it look ugly. Not dark enough to be a Spiral-style level.

The blob looks like a sprite.

And it looks ok, but yeah it's a bit too varied in color.

Nice, but doesn't really look all that scary, I say you make that blob a fluorescent blue that fluctuates with electricity, that'd make it look cool.

I've decided that my original post wasn't all that helpful.

• Get rid of the green. Replace it with a blue or a red.
• The blob indeed should be blue, and it needs a bright white or bright blue element to it, like sparks or a glowing core.

Ok thanks for the replies, I'll get to work on your suggestions. What about the color is too colorfull (I will change the green teleport doors, and I'll go with the blue blob as suggested), i need to know what other textures should change. And someone mentioned to bright, anyone want to second that motion? BTW the blob is an animated sprite, which does "fluxuate with energy," but I'll make look much more elite.

Move the lights on the floor (3rd SS) closer to the lightsource (the portal).

I did better [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif] i made the portal area flash multiple lights at random intervals so it apears that the portal is defenitly the source of light.
Also I updated the red blob to blue and i have a question...

A reminder that the particle color can change, but i dont know how to change size of the sphere. also i dimmed the level down a bit and it looks a lot nicer now, so ill keep working on it while you all argue.

Looks much better. I suggest blue particles that appear on the outside of the sphere, and are sucked in to the center and then disappear.

I added the lightning to make it awsome, but does anyone have a cog that would make the lightning ghosts rotate? If you do or could make on that would be awsome. and about the particals being pulled into the blob i have no idea how to do that so it probably wont happen.

instead of using ghosts, use powerups and set their THINGFLAGS to 0x10, maybe that will be a quick and dirty way of doing it.

yeah, the red one looked like a cacodemon(that other thread reminded me)

I say, make the core of the yarn sprite whitish and it will look more "energy-like"

Shaping up to look very good indeed. I suggest adding some kind of custom-made (ie: NO DEFAULT LEC) machinery to make the area look more industrial. Maybe even Spiral could give you something.

I personally think the blob looked horrible in both shots. Not because of the way you did them, but they just look out of place. the things sticking out of it look utterly idiotic, to me.

The rest of the level is good texturing. I'm sure the gameplay is fantastic, but this level's archi isn't all that fantastic. Just good gameplay, which is what counts.

wow that does look better... updates soon!
(my first SotD[more like SotMonth nowadays]!!!)
And yes the lightnig hurts which is why i want it to spin like crazy so it is random. still working on that.

Wow, the lightning and energy ball thing look really good. Very Half-Life-teleporter-ish. The weird thing is, I had the EXACT same idea for a level I'm making (the idea of having the lightning rotate around, etc.). Probably just came from playing too much HL.
