I know my lack of faith is disturbing, but I fail to see what's so impressive about this level thus far. Sure, the concept is awesome, and we all want to sate our darker desires for raw power as Vader, but just showing off what I believe is someone else's shibby model in front of various very early stages of a level isn't showing us much at all. Then again, there isn't much to show. I can understand that you might want to show us your development process, but the awed comments that are pouring in already seem to just be blind admiration for you in respect to your very impressive previous work. I just hope that this project doesn't meet the fate of Mace in Party Crasher, and that as this level takes more shape it will become truly worthy of your prior excellence.
Cordially,
Lord Tiberius Grismath

I'm surprised by the feedback myself. It doesn't look that great at the moment as every room I've shown is still a long way off the finished product.

I like to show screens at an early stage because things are so much easier to fix this far in development. I appreciate the positive feedback, but I'm mainly on the lookout for critiques at this point.

Although I won't deny, it is much more motivational to work on a level that you know people are looking forward to playing.

First off, any chance you can make the windows a bit shorter? I think they're a bit too big. Maybe make them start a foot below where Vader's shoulders start ... they just seem a bit big.

Erm, I drew a little piccie as you can see. The grey represents what I'm on about when I say that I think that there really needs to be something coming up from the lower floor to the top ceiling, like a pipe or something - at the moment it seems a bit empty and boxey, and something coming up would really make it look cool and break it up.

Well... they're supposed to be big windows... like the ones Star Destroyers have... what does everyone else think?

Oh... I see... the picture's a plan view. I was looking at it wrong.

Do you mean, you want to see pillars in the room? I was going to add some actually, must've forgot.

need help: Both those areas already look vastly different to the screenshots you've commented on, and I still haven't finished them

I've set the Rebel enemies in the level to have red uniforms, to fit with the colour scheme of the level. I've also added a black wookiee enemy with a red belt. I got the idea of adding wookiees to the mix from "Battlefront".

How did you get stormtroopers to be your ally and rebels to be your enemy? I want that exact thing in my level. :o

PM me, please. :)

But anyways, it looks absolutely brilliant. :D
DO NOT WANT.

Thanks Zell. I actually made new "NPC" files for all the NPCs in the level to assign them to the right side. Check out the files in the "ext_data\npcs" directory in "assets1.pk3" for details.

Yeah, you could write a spawnscript for each enemy/ally, assigning them to the right side.

You might want to clip the corners on those horizontal bars above the consoles so they line up with the vertical ones.

I agree with Grismath. I do think Vader looks like a badass and all. But I don't see anything impressive about the map so far. But I still can't wait to see what this developes into.

The map isn't that great at the moment. I'm just posting screens so that people can see the progress, I'm also hoping for suggestions.

has there been any thought to either making vader's force replenish faster or making force powers use less mana?

2004-10-28, 4:14 PM #105
Suggestions, eh?

Well, here's a few...
Why don't you give players a chance to cut down a catwalk ala RotJ? The rebels walking around up there would then be conveniently spilled into a pit of doom or something.
Or in a sadistic nod to the EU, you could have an opportunity to crush a wookiee under some huge boulders.

You could also throw in a few "frills" too, such as about a dozen secret spots (and maybe some sort of reward to make them worth finding) and my personal favorite, the "objective completed" chime from JK and MotS.

And don't forget the obligatory cutscene in which Vader chokes a rebel to death while trying to squeeze some information out of him.

I was going to, but I don't want to make it too easy.

Great idea! I love it. Thanks for that.

I intended to have a few cave-ins, so this could work.

Most of your most recent shots haven't been all that atmospheric (emphasizing the incompletion of the project), but that latest shot looks absolutely amazing (especially with all of the lighted crates. Reminds me a little bit of Phantasy Star Online for some reason)

Thanks, that's the look I'm trying to go for for the entire level. The architecture in that last shot is really simple, it's the fog and lighting that bring it together.

Here's an update on the control room:

Yes... this is going to be a good level...

Now if only Gonk would finish that underwater one we'd be set. :D

This particular room is shaping up to be more like the main command center of the base, rather than just a random control room. Remember, Rebels don't exactly have the largest or most organized bases in the galaxy compared to the Empire.

Yeah Zaidyer, that's basically what I meant.. it'll be an objective to aid the Imperials into capturing it.
