Awesome. Just awesome. Did you model it from the first three Star Wars films, or did you model it after the CGI one yoda? Cause I think that the puppet yoda was cooler than CGI yoda. GREAT JOB!
Who made you God to say "I'll take your life from you"?
2005-01-14, 7:07 PM #44
I'd say he did the CGI yoda, because of the head. The CGI yoda's head was much more round, whereas the puppet yoda looked more irregularly shaped. I liked the puppet yoda more, myself.

Even just a higher-poly Yun model (the basic, no-shoulder pad humanoid model) would be nice. Moving around vertices and adding extra chunks here and there is the easy part, so if there was a good base to work off, that'd be swell.

If there were some Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine detail leveled models around, I would love to....do something. To help. Skin or something.

But anyway, that Yoda...I don't get it. Is he actually small? And if so....how? I haven't really been keeping up with the cog forum or anything...did I miss something awesome?
2005-01-14, 10:54 PM #47
He's based primarily on the rotj version, but also the cg version. kind of a combo.

He's the correct size compared to the kyle model. (the size of a puppet :p )

If you've played tdir, you'd know that we had multiple sized characters in multiplayer. We did it by adding support for all models in the keys. Given our knowledge of how keys work, Hell Raiser is programming a tool that will convert keys to be used with any / multiple models. Check the editing forum for a beta version.

Ahh, this is so cool. I gave him kyles mesh names and used the converter to give him all kyles animations. (still waiting on multi character support) and the conversion was just about flawless. There are only a couple idling animation issues, everything else is spot on!

He actually has to jump to get that crossbow

The SBX yoda wasn't yoda at all. It was pic. Pic with a yoda texture. This is ACTUALLY yoda.

yeah, I already fixed the transparency on the texture.

Your right, it was a regular player model with pics head and no knees.

My yoda has knees, that bend. Ankles, too :D

Using yoda in multiplayer would be an unfair advantage :P There's less to hit.

When playing as yoda, in first person view are you lower to the ground?

Actually the hitbox is the same, just lower to the ground. Believe i or not, the player hitbox doesnt encompas kyles legs! you can shoot right through them and not take damage.

And the insert offset of the 3do is lower, so yes, the first person view is lower.

That ... is .... beautiful.

If you want to know (imo) what the 2 most essential models that need to be redone are - they would have to be.

  • Darth Vader
  • Stormtrooper

If you make those models at the same quality level of this Yoda model - I will proclaim you a deity! :D

Very nice, Shred. Is this why HellRaiser was asking about changing pupfiles on the fly in MP?
2005-01-17, 4:44 PM #66
Was he? I dont know. One of the main points of KeyEd is to make the player keys support any and all models you tell it to, which eliminates the need to change pup files via cog.

Shred should do odd-sized characters before anything at all. Jawas, rancors, etc.

That model is awesome shred. When people were complaining about the parka all I could think was 'JKs node system sucks, what can he do?' and then you went and made it work anyway. That looks really solid. And to see it ingame, oh man it looks a lot better than I thought was possible. Certainly better than kyle with a head transplant and his legs chopped off that was the best playable yoda to date.

But what I'm really excited about is KeyEd. The fact that you had to build an entirely new set of keys for a somewhat different model was the main thing standing in the way of different sized and shaped humanoid models in the game. Now there's a program to do almost all the work for you!

Also, the guy asking for a new higher quality yun model, it was made a few months ago by Darth Slaw. All you have to do is copy yuns texture names into Slaw's new kyle 3do and you're good to go.

Between that and the thing limit thing, its like a new golden age of JK editing! Or something...

Shred18 is kicking everyones ***, and there's not much that you can bring up to compare to his work. Ditch the pessimism and jump on the "Shred18 is God" bandwagon...he deserves it. It's not going to hurt you to give credit where it's due. Sorry, but you're giving the thread a negative vibe.

Possibly, but I think I would have noticed if someone spiked my H2O. I'm simply pointing out that Shred18 deserves praise for this, and that G-Man's cynicism is taking away from the thread. The fact of the matter is that this is the most impressive Yoda that we've seen for JK/MotS, and to keep pointing out that things have been done before, despite not being as good Shred18's work, and that it's only because "he got more time than other" (?) is a bit irritating to those who really appreciate the hard work that has gone into this, as well as KeyEd.

My apologies if I've misunderstood something, but one can only take so much cynicism, and the threads seem to be overflowing with it these days.

I gotta tell ya, thats nothing like the Storm Trooper model from JO or JA, it' the stock ST only rounder and still uses the JK ST textures. Why settle for a mediocre "Hi-Def" ST model?

If somebody doesn't try their skills on something thats already been done, we're left with only 1 choice. Ex: Microsoft. :p

[I think I get it. G-Man is mearly pointing out that one exists, but not inferring that one better shouldn't be made :p ]
