I made this guy fairly quickly. Unfortunately I found out a 256x256 texture wasnt going to cut it for the body, so now I have to chop up his UVs and reassemble the texture, so I'll have to come back to it :(

Err.. it's a nice start, but looks like a shorty blocky stormtrooper with something resembling an ape to me.

The head doesnt look right at all some how, and as FastGamerr said he looks short. It's pretty good though :)

It looks good, but the head is too far forward.

I think it's excellent considering I only mentioned the word "stormtrooper" to you a couple of days ago. Except for the head, I'd say spot on. I would only suggest that you expand the sides of the head a bit more, and make it ... wait, just a sec, I'll post a pic of what I mean...

Yeah, I'd just recommend you expand that circled bit, and you're good to go. Sweet work, man!

Looking good. Very good.
Helmet need some tweaks though. There's something bugging me about the body in general but I can't figure it out. It seems to match up... :\

i like it.

Too stubby. And the upper arm plates have an angled top, not like the straight cut now. ;)
DO NOT WANT.

A good start. Maybe check out HapSlash's new stormtrooper model for JO/JA:
http://www.hapslash.com/wip_sw4_trooper.html

Infact, check out his whole site. He's done a lot of SW modesl for JO/JA, incredible quality. I especially like the sandtrooper. Might give you some ideas.

Very good job. Just a few tweaks, and it'll be great. :) However, I think this stormie's been sneaking some extra rations out of the commissary - lookin' the slightest bit tubby there. :p

If the shoulders are raised, you'll fix all the feelings the body has wrong.

OTherwise, the things about the head have already been pointed out. I also think the legs and waste areas need work. Be it resizing, and whatnot.

Plus, the texture in general seems rather... not white. Dingy, in a way.

Yeah, but don't forget that in the movies Stormie armor varied in color almost between every scene. If it was on Tatooine, they almost inevitably lacked shine and had a dirty, sandy color to them whereas somewhere like the Death Star they would be all clean and crisp and shiny. I really don't think there is any "set" color for Stormie armor in the Star Wars universe. It varies too much to designate any one particular shade. the "final authority" on the subject matter.

In general though, yeah, they should be whiter. The Tatooine ones make sense, because they were in the middle of a desert. But yea, make the armor shine a bit.

And here's something that's off... Move up the arms. Or move the chest armor down. There's the top of the arms, and then the chest armor is set up higher than that. Should be even, to make nice smooth shoulders. And the issue with the head someone brought up. The ref pic shows these quite well.

Yeah, thats exactly what I was thinking. Something seems off on the proportions, probably just by a little bit. But I just can't figure out what it is. I was going to say either the arms were to long or the legs were a little to short...but compared to that shot Slaw posted...not really.

Maybe the torso is to short?

It's been said twice now: The shoulders need to be raised to meet the colar-bone of the torso. By raised, I don't mean physically raised, I mean 'extended' so the vertices are moved up a bit. Then the arm will be the right length, and the torso will suddenly look the right length in relitivity, too.

the obvious joke everyone has been waiting for...

Arent you a little short to be a storm trooper?

also, the breast plate should look more like man bewbs.

On my reference, the armor appears to have a ridge around the neck, which is kind of throwing off the look. the arms are at the correct height. Anyway, thanks for that link Emon, I had a look at the JO model and now I know how the armor should fit over the body better.

I was trying to conserve polys, I had slimmed the helmet down to 499 polys to work in JK, but screw it, I'll devide it up into different meshes. I'm reworking it, since I had to redo the UV's anyway. Here is the helmet! Almost done with it.

Yes, the helmet is perfect, just work the body armor a little. Looking great, and it already beats the marshmallow stormies in JO/JA.

It looks BEAUTIFUL, but the feet still bug me. I'd make them a bit less pointed and more boxy in front....but that's just my opinion.

EDIT: Maybe they're just too thin altogether? I dunno.
2005-01-22, 3:31 PM #35
You put Raven, LucasArts, JO, JA, and even your former self to shame, but I agree with Murc - the feet still look a bit on the petite and dainty side. Otherwise = BRILLIANT!

The only problem I can see is the black bit between the arm and the chest.. you should extend the chest plate a little further round.

Looking awsome though :)

Now just do some texture/shoulderpad tweaking and make a sand, commander, officer, and then with a new helmet, snow varients.

If you don't know what each is...

Sand:
Brown Shoulder Pad, grimey textures, cloth handing.

Officer:
Red shoulder pad.

Commander:
Blue Shoulderpad.

Snow:
New helmet, and shirttails.
