Canyon Oasis remake for HL2

To Echoman: Yeah in place of the conc rifle I just put a rocket launcher up there. The only thing that didnt really come out like I hoped is that from that nook where the conc is supposed to be, its not level with the metal bridge, so it would be hard to actually hit people on it with the rl. I will try to raise it a lil higher in the next version.

The bridge has a little support under it that connects to the sides of the canyon but its hard to see in the pics and it does seem unrealistic. I'll try to think of something to add there, pillars would be cool but the way I designed the bridge there is no way to add those cool stone pillars like in the original and make it look good. I could make it breakaway like SniperWolf said but then that would seriously affect the flow of the map.

OMG, youre right! I don't know how I missed that.
It is a jed shot actually, and I just now remembered that I never reset the 3d preview to 'show things' after I reinstalled windows. Therefore, since the columns are things... There's your explanation.

:o

Perhaps the only nice looking canyon oasis remake I have ever seen. A pity my anti-spyware programs all say steam is bad, or I would be able to try it out. The original CO - ugly as it was - was the best playing map to come with JK.

You can 'fix' the dirt bridge thing by shoring it up with something, like in a mine shaft. It might also help if the map is modified to be more to scale. The bridge would have less space to span that way.

The outside of the rock wall around the pool is gorgeus. The top isn't so nice. Remember that the water in CO was not a natural pool. Your's could stand to be a lot deeper. Also, the water in CO didn't seem bothered by things like 'the laws of physics', but I don't think you want to replicate that. :D

Yea.... don't get me wrong, this map is truly beautiful, but the fact that it isn't anywhere near scale REALLY bothers me. I hate to sound too hard to please... it's just the reason why the original CO is STILL to this day a GREAT map is because of it's perfect flow and gameplay.... which may be sacrificed by it not being to scale. So unless the flow of this map is even more addicting than the original, it just won't cut it for me.

Also, just a thought, maybe you might wanna make it look more within the Star Wars universe? No? All well, nevermind.

Still tho, your skills are sexy as all hell... but you know that all ready.

HL2 doesn't flow at all like JK does, so the proportions are going to be far less significant. You won't be able to recreate it perfectly because HL2 is so different.

yeah that will probably work JM on the dirt bridge. Ill try that out and see how that goes. I may have to rip out the whole water section and make it bigger since it is extreamly small compared to the original CO. Making the map more to scale is out of the question at this point, that involves me scrapping the entire thing and starting over and theres no way in hell im gonna do all that displacement surface work again LOL. Poor planning on my part but hey this is my first serious attempt at a map so Im still pretty much super noOb. I just finished up the bridge by adding supports under since like everyone on here suggested that and I also hung a metal support over the bridge holding the bridge up with ropes (Came out very badass IMO, ill post pics tomarrow.) Also added a ladder on the edge of it to compensate for force games people could jump from the water part up on the bridge (might help game flow). Right now im working on the 3d skybox, the area outside gameplay to add atmosphere. Im probably just gonna take out some if not all of the trees and just align the background with canyons and stuff off in the distance. After this is over I was thinking about doing either a Bespin Mining Station or Nar Shadda remake hehehe. If I do end up doing that Ill make sure I scale it better.

I'll host the beta. As far as I know, Cox offers unlimited bandwidth. As long as it's under 10 MB.

Mabye you could make the boundaries cliffs instead of hills? :D This could become very popular. JK will stay alive through other engines! Yes!

K added 4 screens of the bridge part which I added on a ladder and some supports since to many of you have a basic understanding of gravity. Also started working on bespin mining station cause I got burnt out on Oasis. added some screens of that as well. Sorry but its still on geocities, Once we get my other band's website up, ill host it from there. Note the lighting is not done in bespin, those are just some early screens, its not going to be that dark.
