I'd like people's opinion on these sketches I've been working for the Dark Side Compendium for the Dark Jedi Brotherhood (a SW fiction/gaming club that I'm in.)

Taimat and Ferran, ancient leaders of the Star Chamber, and ancient Dark Jedi cult from millenias before the fall of the Old Republic. Taimat, a crazed sorceress brought down terror and destruction on the world of Antei, and her comrade, Ferran, a grand warrior of the Obelisk order killed her for her evil deeds. I tried making him sorrowful because he is torn apart by what has happened.



And a sketch of the mighty Naga Sadow, dark lord of the sith :

They both look good, great work!

My only nitpick is that something looks odd about Taimat. Her hand, it seems to broad and the fingers could be a bit longer, but it I guess it's not too unnatural as it is. Yet her elbow looks a bit weird. And the eye seems out of perspective a little bit compared with the mouth and nose.

But that's just nitpicking

Well nit-picking is good, thanks for pointing them out. I'm just slowly getting the hang of drawing hands (been studying this stuff for a while) and yea, I agree it could be smaller with longer fingers (also a problem of my current drawing tools (st00pid crap ;p)

The text is also a 2 or 3 year old version of the DB history. Everything is being rewritten.

Nice, but I never understood why people add stuff like nipples to their artwork. It just makes it seem dumb, devalues the rest of the work.

The site does not work perfectly in Firefox. There is a bunch of lines where the images meet.

She's wearing something about 3 microns thick... Either nipples, or bra-straps... Otherwise it's an incomplete rendering. Besides, what's wrong with getting a stiffy every time you see it? I think the idea is that she's supposed to be beautiful... Which is exactly what the drawing is... You might also notice that there are other features visible through her um... shirt? For example, the stomach... Also this doesn't appear to be finished, who knows what else we'll see.

It's art. The more emotions and physical reactions it gets, the better the art is. [assuming those reactions are appropriate for the scene] Not sure on what women see, but a man sees the woman, the nipples, and has an immediate sexual reaction [to whatever level that may be] - then he sees the guy ramming a sword in to her, and suddenly feels very sad, because that character who he just had a sexual reaction to is dying. When he looks at the dude and how crushed he looks, he feels even sadder, and is able to relate to him. The more you can relate to a character, the better than character is.

Seriously, thats not one of the first things I noticed in the sketch so I dont see why they have to have such an important purpose in the drawing. Its just a minor detail.

Do those runes mean anything?

no, they certainly don't HAVE to be there... But she doesn't really HAVE to have hands either... I personally think they are important, but I wouldn't go as far as saying necessary... As I said earlier, they add more to the picture than just a couple of bumps - they add a psycho-physiological depth to it...

I am quite obessive compulsive, however not seeing something that obviously be visible, would detract from the image.

Besides, who doesn't like titties?

The difference there is that people are going to immediatley notice if she doesnt have hands. Nobody will question the lack of nipples showing through the shirt.

But what exactly is wrong with having them? Like hands it adds to the realism of the drawing, so I don't exactly understand your stand point on this?

Never said there was anythign wrong with them :p I was simply backing up tofu and saying that its not a nessescity (sp?)

Jep, I'd say some people would think of the nipples as a gratuitous tie-in to appeal to the penis god... I don't typically view art as being that shallow... And even if it is a piece of needless sex, ... why not?

Honestly I find it to be quite ironic that we're looking at 2 gorgeous pieces of art, that obviously have a lot of soul and character in them... And we're talking about nipples.

Really great sketches. The Naga Sadow drawing is AMAZING. Looks very professional.

The chick has definately been to the cosmetic surgery, though. Her boobs look fake and her waist is thinner than a wasp's one. And it looks as if someone had removed her lowest ribs. And her ear is a bit too low (low, if she had her head in normal position). If you cover her ear, the eye suddenly doesn't seem that much out of place anymore.

If you look carefully the woman is tilted towards the camera, and is not perfectly level. I noticed her right breast is a little flat, however this is not entirely off, as she's dying and has probably recently exhaled heavily. Since her head is actually tilted towards the camera, her ear and eye really aren't out of place, even if the ear looks a bit like she's a member of my clan... Her waist really isn't that small, if you look closely you can see that the sword is actually piercing her left kidney, and you can see more of her back behind the entry point... This actually looks like a pretty good mock up of a woman who only recently passed her most fertile years... [so she looks 22-26] She does however have an unusually long torso. However when we look at this sort of art, you have to realize that this piece will never show as much character as in this stage... You can tell a lot about the artist by his sketches.

Kinda off topic, but SWEET I FOUND SOMEONE ELSE THAT HAD HEXEN II!

Hell yea, I loved Hexen II, especially playing Co-op with my buddies.

I wish other first-person / 3rd person medieval fantasy had come out for pc cept Rune of course.

Not to mention, and I may be wrong here, I don't know anything about this whole compendium thing or the characters sen here in particular, but if I remember correctly, which I rarely do, the Sith were notorious for being... well, let's examine the Sith we know:
Darth Bane: Had big clams growing on him
Darth Sidious: Horribly twisted and corrupted by the Dark Side and his own evil abilities (literally)
Darth Vader: Maybe a bad example
Darth Maul: Took a species characteristic, a love of tatoos, and took it a little too far
The Sith revel in self-mutilation and improvement. The physical body is crafted in ways similar to the way one crafts a personal starship. Sometimes you get an Eclipse (Darth Maul), sometimes you get a Millenium Falcon (Darth Vader). It's not as bad as the Yuuzhan Vong, who grant an artist all kinds of freedom because they don't even have to necesarily be what would normally be described as remotely humanoid, but the Sith in general might have a wide degree of physical differences from the rest of their species.
By the way,t hat thing about the nipples and the sadness? True.

-Naga Sadow pic ROCKS! Try combining actual Runes with Kanji to make for an unsettling appearence, or just write "Bad Mutha-F**kah" in Aurek-Besh.

Dooku looked like a normal man, so your theory doesn't quite hold for all sith.

And Tofu, women (and men) have nipples, get over it.

Maybe she's past the OMG I've been stabbed, and after a minute is finally pushing the last, restless breath

But I still need to add light pouring out of her wounds, mouth and eye (goes with the storyline)
