RAdio Detection And Ranging...

...in JK!

That gran is at maximum detection range. Not too much range, but I can increase or decrease the range by tweaking a scale variable.

More radar action. The far gran is at maximum detection range.

I'm going to upload this into the JKHub download section. But before I do, I think I'll code in elevation detection as well -- brighter blips as your elevation approaches that of the enemy, and dimmer blips as you get further away.
May the mass times acceleration be with you.

Awesome. Other authors will be able to use this in their own projects, right? A lot of mods could benefit from something like this.

Darth Slaw, good work.

I've got something in mind for this already....

Oh, and use this sound (kudos to anyone who knows where it's from):

 That is sweet, but I dont think sounds would be good, they would get annoying after a while. BEEP click BEEP click......BEEP click
I heard a sound very much like that on some 2d Marines game I don't remember the name though.
This is retarded, and I mean drooling at the mouth

I really doubt many mods could benefit from it. I don't think radar is something you should just throw into every mod you've got, honestly.

Well I could definitely use it for LoG when Grismath gets into LED officer armor.

JK Team Battle could benefit from this. Or at least would if it were still active... :S

Also, descent_pilot's Firearms mod would do well with this, as it has some larger maps.

An MP mod could make interesting use of this for team games. I'm thinking a CS type thing. (or is it CZ only?) Basically it would always show your teammates, and when a teammate has sight of an enemy (force_well.cog maybe can check with HasLOS or whatever) the enemy appears on the whole team's radar. :D

screw putting it in mods, just make it compatatible with everything you can, and release it as it's own mod!

I'm really looking forward to this. A shame I can't make levels, else I'd rework it as level-based and include it with each.

can probably do. I'll work it into an existing inventory cog, parsearg a ghost and we should be in business.

He's got a point. Look at the Clone Wars game, where you drive the vehicles (or play as a jedi when you don't). The R2 sound "whaaaaaaooooooh!" (Just before Luke says "I've lost R2!" in ANH) is soooooo overused in that game... it plays every time your health is at a critical level. And in multiplayer that generally happens once every 10-20 seconds. Hearing that sound every time I'm about to die is so irritating now that I've lost all respect for Astromech droids
And that doesn't even include the fact that the sound plays when you're NOT driving a vehicle and your health is low. Since when does Mace carry an R2 unit in his knapsack?!? (oh, he doesn't even have a knapsack -- where's R2?)

Sorry to rant like that, but it's just so irritating the way Lucasarts did that.

However, I'm sure many would agree that Daft's sound would be better suitable for, say, a cutscene or room with a radar in it.

Or maybe we should rip a sound from DBZ and send Shred out looking for dragonballs :p
May the mass times acceleration be with you.

Is anyone else thinking 'Metal Gear Solid: Jedi Snake'

Phreaking awesome!
2005-06-07, 7:16 PM #21
I actually think Gris has some AI that's got snake-style visual sensors with only a range of view. This could be translated into JK and slapped into that hud thinger to make a fantastic MGS style hud.

Seriously, this is awesome. It would definitely be cool with Spiral's Laboratory Vol. 2 - would fit right in.

And give away all the surprises lurking in the shadows, cheater :p (j/k)

I'll see if I can't program the elevation thing really fast (should be a piece of cake) and submit

Also, I haven't any idea where the sound is from... in fact the only radar I can think of right now is in spaceballs, thanks to bearded_jarl ;)

You know what would be really cool- is if someone modified this so it worked like a force power, rather than a piece of technological equipment.
2005-06-08, 10:21 AM #26
There was a power like that :P it made that really annoying sound and turned everything blue...

if you turned the map on (hit tab) it would show you where things were in the area.

Yep, gotta love Force Seeing... I never had it turned off for the last few levels of MoTS (in fact, I still think of the Sith temple as being green, not purple).

But seriously, that radar is cool.

That is amazing. I can't even think of a way to do that. How does it handle enemies that are above or below you, though?

I haven't really looked at the showcase forum much for quite a while, and I am damn impressed at how much has been done with this engine.
