I know. :p Cool Matty's right - it's an ISP problem.

'Kay -- the backlight on my laptop just died, so it will be a while before I can continue work on this, or post any new pictures.

Oh, and Daft? I have infinite bandwidth on my Tripod account, because of a little cheating.

Or I could just say it here, since no one else can get it and it's not illegal.

My dad used to work for Lycos, specifically in the datacentre that housed Tripod. It was a simple job for him to mess with my account settings.

It could be the underscore in the URI. Breaking RFC 3490 there.. I know for a fact that URIs containing the underscore character do not resolve on *nix systems. Probably true for Macs too. So unless you're using windows (and its non-standards compliance) you wont be able to view Virus' site.

Anyway, Looks nice if a bit boxy.

You know for a fact, huh?

I just did it on all the Linux systems I have here. Every single one resolves. (I must say though, the site is completely nonfunctional in lynx. Stupid graphics only designs :D)

In addition, just for a kicker, I tried it on my webserver in another part of the country (on a completely different backbone, different linux distro, and not even set up by me), and it still works.

And finally, I read up on this "RFC 3490". Nowhere in there do I see restrictions imposed upon URI's other than a requirement that all characters be in ASCII. If you wouldn't mind, please point out these restrictions.

Sorry got my RFCs confused. (hey it was 2:30 am when I posted that :P)

Exerpt from RFC #921: "There are some limits on these names. They must start with a letter, end with a letter or digit and have only letters or digits or hyphen as interior characters. Case is not significant."

This is first noted in RFC #822, then fully described in RFC #1035.

No *nix system i've used has worked with domains with underscores in them. From my universities SSH server:

ping: unknown host virus_inc.tripod.com

Anyway, the reason I know this is because i did a fair amount of testing trying to find out why the subdomain i pointed at my PC wasn't working (_.1.vg). It would never resolve on a BSD or linux box. Although my subdomain breaks every restriction apart from the maximum length one. :P

Actually, yes you can. :)

Well, you could -- if I created insides. =P

I suppose I could do it, although it certainly wouldn't help with the framerates. Perhaps I will create a couple of buildings you can go in, scattered around the city, but other than that...

I think it will be more for taking cars and driving them. And killing other people from interesting positions.

Yeah, some basic insides, like your garage and a few rooms or hallways, with locked doors sealing off the rest of the building. Maybe you could make it more interesting by adding a floor or two accessible by elevator, still with limited access (e.g. apartment/hotel rooms -- most doors are locked). This could make your insides seem even larger.

Maybe to help framerate, make whatever insides you make a separate 3do, and set them invisible (geo=0 or something) when the building's access doors are shut. I suppose areas within direct proximity to windows best be part of the building that's always visible (higher floors with windows will allow for good sniping too :))

All in all, this looks to be a cool level indeed :)
