There was a game called Codename: Eagle that had most elements of BF1942 (player classes, vehicles, vast outdoor levels) at around the time of JK. It also contained a gazillion of bugs.

I think JK is still too far to be almost at modern game level. Think about something along the lines of . . . polys, graphics, . . .

Why would you want compexity AND function if you could just settle for function

the polygon limits are easilly bent beyond whatever there was before

the only thing I see JK is behind in is lighting, and modern games also pretty behind in realistic lighting, except maybe those shots of COD2

It's not like we're all commenting on how the graphics are, (oooo! dflt.mat > all) but on how much work it took to actually do this new and often deemed impossibility to an old game. I know I couldn't come up with a cog to do all that, even if there were some PlayerAction! Actually if I wanted dflt.mat, I would download some of those crappy BGJ/CO retexturing levels that massassi seems to be so willing to host. Anyways, good work, and more power to ya!

No. There are LOTS of areas where JK is outdated. Texture filtering, polygon edge smoothing, lighting, real time shadows. I didn't mention shaders, did I?

Most of that stuff is with rendering and high quality material can still be made without all that stuff. I also already said JK is limited in lighting

Anyway, I downloaded it and tried it out and it's all good stuff. The stationary guns are good but there are some small bugs with rapid going on and off. The truck does weird stuff when driving over manholes. Would all this work in multiplayer without lag?

Elaborate by what you mean with the rapid fire goin on and off? I know the sound loops for the minigun, even tho the correct coding is in there.... And the "manholes' are accually the "ladders" into the sewers, they aren't solid, and thats what I mean by physics problems...

If you quickly hit the fire button when mounted on a stationary turret, it can happen that several "fire pulses" get started and you get a much better fire rate.

Guys, JK has a lot of advantages and disadvantages. It's template system and resource loading system, modular code system (individual COGs instead of all code being in one or two DLLs) are great strengths. But it has a lot of weaknesses. You just don't notice them because you've been working with the engine for so long and you've learned how to overcome the weaknesses or work around them. When you start working with a different engine, the answers are not so apparent, so you tend to think it sucks. I was the same way when I started working with Q3, but over time I realized just how awesome it could be, and how in many ways it was vastly superior to JK. It has its weaknesses, but for most development purposes it's superior.

So unless you've had extensive experience with both JK and modern engines, you are in no position to say how much better JK is, or vice versa.
