After experiencing some of the lowest sales in years, Mountain Dew CEO's became desperate with their marketing ploys.

This is my first completed character. The only thing I'm considering changing is the hair, possibly. I may also add some shading on the wheelchair, but I got lazy. If the colors seem a little bland, it's because Photoshop really screws up Illustrator's colors when I import for the text. That'll be fixed in the future.

eesh. Aside from the horrid compression, I dont really like the colors. They all seem dulled down a little bit.

Maybe it's just me, but I think Flash is a lot better for the kind of thing you're doing. Here is some of my stuff. The colors are nice and vibrant and personally I think that the interface is much easier to work with.

whoops >.<

Anyway, Illustrator does a tremendous job at text, so why are you doing text in photoshop?

I was lazy and couldn't figure out how to do Comic Sans font. I figured it out afterwords, but now I cant figure out how to crop the image in Illustrator.

No, I overlapped off of the bounding box in AI, but any time I export it, it KEEPs what's below the box. I want it to crop that off. I assumed it would...

A. Probably changed the colors because you might be going from CMYK to RGB

B. Illustrator is specifically designed to be a print program, not a web program. Youll have to import into photoshop if you want to crop off what you put outside of the artboard, unless you have Acrobat's distiller.

C. I agree with Uberslug, flash's interface is super easy to do cartoony vector work in this style; Illustrator, however, is better for high end vector work like this (outline).

D. If you decide to keep importing Illustrator files to photoshop anyway, keep the dpi high and make sure anti-alias is selected, you can always make the raster image smaller. Not to mention, fix the colors to your personal liking and control the compression artifacts when you save for web.

E. If this is where advertising is going...I'm going to start looking for a new career (sarcasm)

Tofu, of course, wins.

Someone said she looks a lot like this girl, and man, is she close! [At least, in that picture].

Oh, and how is this talking mouth? This, obviously, is the happy talking mouth. Not happy talking mouth would be pretty easy, but is NOT PERMITTED in my webcomic.

Tips

1) Make characters less static... is there any other pose for the first one than the pointed finger/mouth wide open one?

2) Don't mimic QC :p. I can tell, yes, I can. (I actually don't care, though)

I'm just trying to get the characters down. DUH there's more than the pointed finger.
And I'm using a little from all of my favorite comics.

Crossed eyes, and needs a sharper nose.

i agree with MB on this one. last time i checked, we lived on Earth not Tatooine; we have only one sun. one specular highlight in the eyes would look much more natural.

...and so this post isn't completely useless---> :: CLICK ::

Nice cartoony eye tutorial. (oh my, teaching yourself something using help already provided by taking the time to search, how absurd!)

Crossed eyes, yes, sharper nose I attribute to the style he's trying to attain.

The nose and the eyebrows need fixing. Nose is too long and flat, eyebrows are not bent enough and ways too long.

Exactly. Wasn't really intended to be a funny haha comic, but a good setup for the entire comic as a whole. If you got that out of it, than I'm satisfied.

Not bad, but I don't like the squished text in the first panel.
