Yes, it IS coming...

Random thoughts:

1 - I swear there's already a fan film with this name.
2 - The ships indeed look like they're made of rock.
2b - I see no shaders, at least not complex ones, just flat textures. Engines look like they aren't running at all, and the ships only look like wet rock, not metal.
3 - You're aiming for realism and hitting the mark of obviously fake.
4 - The planet is passable. But, it's a teal blob mostly. It could use a little detail.
5 - Light source aimed at the ship is different from the one aimed at the planet. Doesn't make sense the light side of the ships are the dark side of the planet.
6 - The ships don't appear to be moving, it's obviously the camera. I suggest a stationary camera that doesn't move or tilt (and if so, not much) and have the SDs move by them, at varying speeds. This will help make it evident who is moving.
6b -Camera moves way too fast.
7 - Clipping issues on the back of the SDs.
8 - If you worked for a commercial animation company and submitted that as part of a finished product, I'm fairly sure you'd be fired.

I know but if he's showcasing it it must be something he wants other people to see... I certantly wouldn't showcase this to my boss if I worked in an animation studio place.

I don't really care for the highlights at all because it makes them look made outta somethin non-metal, and those SDs have been in space for who knows how long, its dirty out there. :p
Lighing...well, most has been said except that the stars also generate light, so theres never going to be a straight pitch black, unless prob the original thing was colored black, but i don't see that here.
Get those SD's moving.
It looks good otherwise to me.

I didn't mean that only final stuff should be showcased. I just meant stuff that was more than a few of one model in a skybox with a fly-by camera.

Just to show how ignorant you are, the camera does not move one bit, it only rotates and follows the axis of one of the stardestroyers as it flys by, but the XY and z coordinates are still the same.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Um..what exactly is this project? We won't be able to tell if you don't post some more pictures...

Wow, if the camera isn't moving, then those SDs are moving too fast. Also: It's bad filming to have a camera twist and roll like that. Someone mentioned stationary cameras that don't tilt or pan: EVEN if the SDs are what's moving, it'll be impossible for the audience to know that unless you show it. Frame of reference is VERY important to consider. A still camera is KEY for frame of reference.

I used to pull off a lot of those back in JK's prime. I was good at that. Probably too good. :p

You know... people dislike you because your arrogance. "just to show how ignorant you are". The dude is ****ing giving you critism on a showcase forum. Take it and shut up. Even if he doesn't KNOW what he's talking about, to him (or to me for that matter) it doesn't look very good and *something* is wrong. Technicalities aren't an excuse for not looking good to the average eye.

So yes, the Star Destroyers move way too fast.

Yeah, if the cameras are stationary, you've got to slow it down a *lot*. And don't make some BS excuse that it's because they're "Wraith Destroyers".

Oh, and coming up with another fake SD is lame, same as naming any ship with solar panels a new TIE.

I'm pretty sure no one's mentioned this. The planet's atmosphere is way to thick.
2006-05-06, 11:12 AM #59
And one of the ships in the still looks like it's about to fly right into the path of another.
nope.
