I am not to familiar with radiant... How much of that is static mesh? Or made from another editor?

Looks amazing! Man... everytime I look at one of these threads it makes me want to go back to JED all over again...

I always start some cool project, hit a rough patch and bail on it. Why must I be so unmotivated?!

An old coffin lying in a dusty crypt opens with squeaky noises. *cough* *cough* Hell, necro-voodoo does work!

Sorry for the lack of updates, but honestly there is not much to report. I'm still waiting for a bunch of voice-overs. At this point I'm seriously thinking about releasing "Invasion" unvoiced. It may be not a smart move, but I guess it's better than no release at all.

You only wait for the horatio's voice? 1 voice only?
2008-03-16, 2:01 PM #46
Larry we are cheering you on! this looks like GREAT work, i can't wait to see the final release, pls be patient and wait for the VO, it makes such a diff to have voicing! :)

Thanks guys, glad you like it. And now it's time for a long awaited update: I'm adding a third map to Invasion. This will be a medium-sized map, with a fairly linear level design, so don't expect something as complicated as the two fisrt levels. I intend to add a bunch a puzzles, but there won't be any side-quests.

Without further ado, I give you screenshots.

The bridge. It's not entirely accurate, but it'll have to do...

Believe it or not, but I didn't think about it :gonk:. Well, I guess I just just have to add a ladder of some sort.

Nice attention to craft! It really captures the "Imperial feel" And don't stress too much over people getting in and out of the pit - they aren't working hard enough if they have time for worrying about getting out of there.

The only real thing that irks me would be the flat-pipes-textures on the ceiling. But that's proabably just me. Maybe even bump-map them if possible?

Thanks Echo. I've added extra details on the ceiling, so the infamous flat-pipe texture is no longer a problem. Honestly, Bump-mapping is not worth the effort, as it has just too many annoyances to list. Yeah, just like windows vista.

I agree, maybe asking for bumpmapping may be too much. Good luck

A few new screenshots. I know they're a bit repetitive but I can't help it, Imperial architecture is quite monotonous and cold. Next step: bigger areas with deep chasms. I guess it doesn't make any sense aboard a star destroyer, but I'm gonna kill someone if I must design another corridor. Really.

Very Nice, very Imperial. I think the last shot might be a bit brighter than what I'd typically imagined such a thing to look like, but not by any real stretch :)

I used you bank account. Thank you by the way. The problem is that my brand new star destroyer doesn't fit into the garage.

Larry McBruce, your awesome map and screenname have inspired me to potentially make a JA level this summer.

The star destroyer image is for a cutscene?
2008-04-10, 11:14 PM #61
You should shoot for a job modding. You've got a certain kind of attention to detail that I haven't seen in a while, especially with JA editing.

Thank you guys. Gana, the star dertroyer will indeed appear is a cutscene, at the begining of the third map. Sorry for the recent lack of update (you should be use to it by now ;)), but I had to redesign a few textures for the room you can see in the screenshots below. Let me know what you think about it.

I really like the glowyness of everything, it's soo awesome :D

I'm really impressed with your usage of stock JA textures and making it work. It looks great. :awesome:

I think he may be using some of mslaf's imperial textures, but I could be wrong. It's an excellent imperial-themed texture pack BTW (created for this level) But yeah, nice attention to texturing.

By Jove! I'm utterly disappointed by your lack of faith Echo!. I've designed most of the textures that appear in Invasion (about 80%), the rest comes from either JA or JO. I really can't help it if they look like Mslaf imperial textures; after all they're supposed to recreate the same kind of environment. As for the ceiling, well, you actually won't see it. I have significantly reduced the lighting, and added a black fog near the floor and the ceiling; it gives an oppressive feeling to the whole area (at least I hope it does...).

Anyway, thank you guys for your possitive comments, and thank you Echo for the SOTD!

Excellent work. As Bokonon would say: Nice, nice, very nice.

Interesting, how you've opened up the bridge. It looks... playable. Tried to build one myself once, and it got a bit cramped. As for those crew pits... there were some floorplans somewhere- damned if I'll ever find them again, but anyway... The level below the main bridge had two short hallways that led to the crew pits from the aft. If you're gung ho on canonical construction, who is to say that they aren't there, as no such camera angle was ever shown in the films?

Again, excellent work- best of luck keeping the pace up. Always thought Star Destroyers were left somewhat unrepresented in SW games after Dark Forces. I'll look forward to exploring yours.

(By the way.. does it have a name?)

Edit: Completely forgot to mention the windows- keen job on those, too... so you like vertices, eh?
2008-04-25, 6:45 PM #71
I just noticed you put a ladder out of the pits.

haha nice

Woah! Long time no see Larry! I thought you'd given up on those, I'm glad that you've decided to go along with it!

By the way, if you get a chance, I'd like to re-record my lines, I'm a bit older now and my voice has changed a bit I think lol.

I only just saw this now, but I'd like to mention that in your first level you showed, if you don't want those seams on the cylindrical metal columns (with the glowing text on them), you can fix it pretty easily. At the moment I'm assuming that you've made them with three individual meshes, you need to make them with one combined mesh to stop the seams appearing.

If you don't like that, I suggest making a little border or something inbetween to hide the seam.

Sneaky sneaks. I'm actually a werewolf. Woof.
