Um, am I missing something there? I vaguely remember putting a 4096x4096 mat in TODOA and then replacing it with a 2048x2048 one because the filesizes were getting really ludicrous at that point.

No, not really. I was just dicking around with a terrible idea and realized textures that large worked. It's the same as making any other MAT.

I built out the surface above the canyon. I'm going to extend it and try to use the same horizon technique as above. It should give it a sense of being in a very large place, like you're able to see across the planet. It'll be great for the like 2 seconds you actually see it.

@Emon - I am assuming that the most recent shot you put on there is going to be tweaked, but if that's the skybox you're going to use I'd suggest making it so the clouds do not extend past the visible terrain. It just looks a bit odd. Also, again I'm going to assume that you haven't done the lighting yet, but since the sky is covered in dense clouds the lighting in the level should be much darker, especially inside of that canyon.

Overall it looks fantastic though. I can't wait to see more.

Visual fidelity of this game would be so much higher if it had lightmaps, reasonable particle effects and good transparency support that rendered correctly. So basically if it were Quake 2.
