Im watching this movie on HBO now...and it's just...wow.

It freaks me out pretty much. I havent seen too many thrillers that were so entertaining.

Anyway, post your thriller experiences.

I enjoyed Signs greatly...up until the point it got on it's high horse and the wonderfully quirky humour was completely sidelined.

Signs was interesting, until I learned their weakness. It then surprised me that they didn't melt upon disembarking from their spaceships.

Signs was Ok until the end when they showed the alien, they definately shouldn't have done that.

Why do people think it's cheesy that liquid water hurts them, but the vapor in our atmosphere doesn't? Perhaps water in a liquid state has a property that we as humans have never realized before, and it is for some reason harmful to them. Did you ever think of that? I didn't really find it that scary as everyone had told me it would be. Storm of the Century I found pretty scary the first time I watched it...alone...in my room. But the second time...

i dont normally go for the really scary movies, just those that scare you on occation while keeping a good story going, so i liked them. Video games are anouther matter though (i love Eternal Darkness and Resident evil when the controls dont piss me off)

You do realize that it's based on a true story, or the bridge part. I have a book on many of North America's monsters, telling eveything on them. Mothman is in there too.

I don't personally think Signs was *really* intended to be a "horror" movie -- the only real scary parts IMO is how Mel Gibson's character started being all mean towards the end. I think they could have picked something better than water as well, but I felt the point of the movie was suppose to be the character change in Mel Gibson, so I suppose I tuned out most everything else. And...

Well, sort of. The Mothman sightings in Point Pleasant started in the early 1960's and continued until the collapse of the Silver Bridge in December 1967. Unlike the movie suggests, none of the phenomena "prophecied" any sort of disaster. The Mothman was still linked to the collapse, however, when sightings began to die down afterwords. And actually, the Mothman is not just an American "monster", their have been sightings of similar creatures around the world. Strangely enough, these sightings seem to occur right before, you guessed it, major disasters, and slowly die off after. So yes, The Mothman Prophecies is "based off a true story", but it is still mostly fictional.

But still...even if a story like The Mothman is mostly fictional, it's fun to believe in it. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who feels this way, but I love to get scared. I know it sounds strange, but fear has gotta be one of the most powerful emotions known to man. Which makes believing in things like aliens and mothmen and stuff like that is so much fun.

So...a species that has even developed cloaking device has never come into contact with a substance which is a key element to life, in any of their explorations?

Water vapor is identicle to water in a cup. I haven't seen the movie yet, but it does sound lame that water would hurt them.
