It's the video card.

And that's a good score for a mid-range comp, trust me

I guess I just don't have a very optimize computer.
My friend told me to "dee frak" it, whatever that means. He said it'd make it go faster in games.

AMD K7-2 1.8gHz

Wow, SAJN has nothing on you, muzein.

MZZT--it's the 5200. Wait, wtf is a k7-2? Is that a Duron?

Thanks for the compliment.
So do you know how to dee frak a computer, is it hard, should I call the ISP to have them help me with it?

I sort of know a lot about computers, well I mean I have opened the case and everything, but not much else technical like that.
2004-09-30, 8:16 PM #52
It's not dee frak, it's defrag.

It's really easy. It should be under start -> programs -> accessories -> system tools -> disk defragmenter. Just run the program (It may take an hour or two).

He's messing with us, Freelancer. Whoever he is, he's mocking us and laughing at us.

Personally, I can't wait till DS bans him. I hate trolls.

Thank's Freelancer! That was pretty easy, it is running right now. My mouse is sort of jerky though.

Dj, I'm sorry I am not an expert at computers but you don't have to be mean to me :(

Oh right, so someone who posts his specs, (who also happens to have a self-built computer, unless you got an Alienware) and seems somewhat knowledgable about a computer's make-up doesn't know what Defragging the harddrive is.

I knew that when I was 10, before I knew what a video card was. Please.

My friend gave me this computer (well, I bought it and traded him some stuff too) when he got a new one. He printed that stuff out for me and I have had it sitting in a box next to the computer.
I know what stuff is, like a video card makes graphics on the screen and I know a hard drive stores stuff. I even know what RPM is and how it makes it faster at opening files.

Jeese, it seems like you haven't liked me since I started posting here :(

You should be getting much higher than 3800. I mean, I'm outscoring you with a lesser system. My suggestion to you is, provided your friend knows more than you (since he did own the system first), to ask him to check the system out. Update drivers and whatnot.

My specs:
Mobile 2500+ @ 2300mhz (184x12.5)
1024MB PC2700 (stupid ram holding my FSB back)
BFG 6800GT @ 410/1200

With this system I am scoring 5500. You should be at least a few hundred above that.

Your video card is almost 2 years old, and this benchmark is really designed for SECOND generation DX9 hardware.

I believe I've made the record here, so far. 213. No higher than 1FPS. Ever.

AMD Athlon64 3000+
512MB PC3200
nVidia GeForce FX 5200 (Worst. DX9 Card. Evar.)

Oh well, I'll be forking out my birthday and holiday money around Feburary to invest in a new video card. On another note: (completely serious,) my room was incredibly chilly before. Now it's about 10 degrees warmer.
Moo.

New specs as of yesterday...

AMD 64 3200+
512mb PC2100
Radoen 9800 @ 410mhz/635mhz

I managed to pull off 2552, not horrible I guess.
2004-10-02, 2:28 PM #64
My comp pulls in at an "acceptable" 1890.

My new comp should break 6000 if everything goes well :D

Specs for new PC:
Athlon64 FX-53
2GB PC3200 RAM.
1 7200RPM Seagate 200GB Hard Drive, SATA
BFG 6800GT 256MB
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum

Yes, my new system should do quite nicely :D

Yes.

And a side note: Cash is very soft, makes for a great bed.

But seriously, I've been saving up for a new PC for a while, and I can get pretty damn good deals through my parent's work. Granted, it's still expensive, but it's really not much more than $1000. (My mom gets the FX-53 for about $600, where the retail box goes for $843 on newegg. And I get a better warranty, and no shipping/handling/tax whatsoever.)

The reason I need this PC (and yes I mean NEED) is that I work a lot with video editing and some modeling software. The video editing requires a buttload of RAM, and a fast CPU. It also recommends a fast video card for real-time rendering (Which is helluva nice for getting a basic idea of how your video will turn out without rendering it.). It recommends a really high-end card, much higher than these gaming cards (think AGP Pro types, in the $1000 range), but that's out of my price range, and a little overkill considering I'm still not into it professionally. And it has the added bonus of being an absolute beast on gaming :D

Another reason is that this PC is a serious multitasker. It runs Win2k and Gentoo, both of which are set up for Internet sharing among the 3 other PCs in the house, and also have filesharing set up in both (Gentoo imitates windows' filesharing, so the PCs on the other end don't even see the difference. They access the same IP, with the same password, and they get the same material.), for games, email, and other stuff my parents and I do. The other PCs in the house have on average about a 6gig HD, just enough for a win2k installation. Everything else is on my PC, so they all access my PC to run programs, and play games. Also has the nice feature of all the PCs running UltraVNC servers (cept mine, so don't try you hackers! :p), so I can admin them without moving from my seat. Quite handy when my mom breaks something on the computer. (Why won't google come up?!!!!!!!!!)

Well, I've gone on enough on this subject :D (Talk about a rant, holy cow!)
2004-10-03, 8:03 AM #68
Why are you getting a 6800GT and not a 6800 Ultra?

I doubt that comp will break 6k. 5k it will break assuredly...but 6k is pushing it.

3.4 ghz with HT
1 GIG of DDR ram
256 MB FX5900 Nvidia video card

2317.. WTF??? Is it really supposed to be this horribly low??? By the way, the computer is brand new and nothing is on it yet except Pacific Assault which runs perfect at all highs...

your video card is gonna hold you back... the FX line wasn't that great... especially with ps2.0... this will not score too high on anything short of an overclocked athlon64 with a GF6800Ultra of X800XT-PE

remember each new version of 3dmark upsets people with decent computers who get lower scores than they think they should get

I got a 240 the first time I ran it, but I've got a GF 5200 FX so I'm pretty sure that's why. The interesting thing is, I upgraded to a gig of DDR ram from 512 mb and the score actually dropped two points to 238. : /

What in the bloody hell would make you go from 512 mb of RAM to a gig of RAM instead of just getting a new goddamned video card?! Seriously.

The Best Buy didn't have the 6800 Ultra I was looking for and I wasn't going to waste $50-100 on a stand-by card, so I bought some ram. New card next time.
