It might not matter in the sense that they want something bigger, but I think it matters in the sense that seeing something larger, turns them on more. The singular nominative is generally considered the "default" state of a word, and that's the word we borrow, generally (sometimes not with Italian, though) and then it should behave like a regular English word.
