PSP loses.

DS has:
1.) Creativity
2.) HUGE past library of GREAT games
3.) Better Battery Life
4.) Nintendo
5.) Built in wireless messaging

PSP has:
1.) A movie player with no quality movies that I'd ever what to watch
2.) Terrible system of Memory Stick
3.) A music player that plays music on a tiny little stick of crud that holds, maybe, 3 songs from what's given in the packaging.
4.) A propritary system for games/movies that COULD have kicked the face of the planet, but ended up being as silly as Nintendo's
5.) No support from me

Nintendo for life.

Maxis:
You can put any movie you want on a memory stick and play it. Same goes for music - and you can buy a bigger stick (512 megs is 120$ from futureshop, which is usually a bit pricey), and the sticks go up to a gig. This is definitly much costlier, but for a bit more you get a quality mp3 player/handheld movie player.

Battery life dosen't really matter to me. If it's a trip longer than 4 hours (That is if I want to play it straight through, download songs, and watch movies. I doubt that I'd do that in a car ride though...), then I can always use the car charger. Let's jack it up to 6 hours though, because I'm not bringing anything to download music and movies into my PSP whilst I'm riding in the car. I do that *first* Plus I wouldn't really want to watch movies on it. Nintendo ****ed up with the touch screen. Coulda been cool, but they had to give you a stylus to look around in FPS games. I don't have three hands if you haven't noticed.

Once again I'm blabbing on, but the PSP isn't even out yet, and IMO IGN is filled with biased poop brains. DO NOT SPAZ ABOUT IT TILL YOU HAVE PLAYED IT. Gawd.

I want a handheld game system not a handheld entertainment system. My mp3 player plays music just fine, and my DVD player plays music just fine. I don't want to watch a movie on a tiny tiny screen! I want to buy the system, then buy a game, then play that game without having to worry every 3 or 4 hours to recharge my batteries. I also don't want to pay out the *** for memory chips and all this other hooooo-haaaa! The PSP is like a Playstation 1.5ish...but portable, that's a bad idea. Portable games play different then regular games on consoles. The PSP has games that would be better to play sitting down infront of the TV, while the DS has more on the go games. Nintendo KNOWS how to make a portable system, and they know how to do it well. I'm DS all the way baby.
Think while it's still legal.

Mario 64 isn't exactly an 'on the go' game either... it's pretty fast paced and stuff.

Metroid. that is all I have to say, but I will say more.
The metroid game is REALLY FUN!!!! and all I have gotten to play is some random traning rooms.
I was never a big PS2 fan so I'm not surprised I don't find the PSP appealing. I personally never actually owned Mario 64, so I am really happy to get it, and in a better incarnation.
My friends DS's battery lasted for at least 8 hours.
I agree though that the launch titles for DS are quite lacking, only one is good.
I also heard about Nintendo releasing some big info or something around March.

I just realized something...Civ on the DS (or the PSP I guess) with the touchscreen.

Pirates! would rock too.

My opinions thus far from reading these three pages (wow, this is a surprisingly hot topic):

The DS is better NOW.
the PSP is just ok.

The DS, though less sophisticated hardware-wise (minus a touch screen and two screens), has lots of better games now, and better potential in the future. Plus it's kinda...released *ahem* unlike the PSP. Metroid Prime:Hunters appears to be the only worthwhile game, save mario DS, and it's 6 months away :(.

The PSP is like...awesome. It's so worth buying. But it needs games...that's the only drawback. Why buy an awesome system if theres nothing you can do with it? Give me MG:Acid now, and I'll buy it. Or give me one of the other action games...something. an fps. anything. not puzzle games and racing games. Give me madden or something.

My vote is the DS for the next 1.5 years, then PSP will take over.

Therefore, I am stumped. I want the PSP but I don't want to wait 1.5 years.

The simple solution is... get World of Warcraft .
Also, buy a portable when my laptop blows up next year and I have no portable entertainment.

That's try, I'm pretty psyched about the PSP, but not because of the games, because it offers MORE than just games. I could never pay over 120$ for a handheld game system, because I wouldn't play the games that much. But a handheld multimedia system... I'm already willing to pay like 200 CAD for an mp3 player, why not fork over a bit more so I can watch movies as well, not even to mention the wireless internet potential and games... I definitly agree the games on the PSP are not very attractive at all. I'm sure they'll come up with some kind of Japanese-style RPG that will win me over though.

More fuel to the fire. In Japan:

Among many to report on this issue, OneHungLo writes "GamesAreFun.com is reporting that several defective PSP units have been shipped, suffering from problems such as dead pixels, broken UMD drives, air bubbles in the screens, dust in the screens, and the analog "nubs" not working, or actually falling off. They also have a video of a UMD popping out of the PSP as it's running, due to the unit being twisted/turned. I wonder how long it will be until Sony issues an official statement about this?"

The DS's first shipment had a bunch of screens with one dead pixel, but I think it's all better now.
Think while it's still legal.

...why did you quote SAJN and that again?

Because the probleme is more serious than a single dead pixel.

Yeah, with the PSP not the DS.

yes :(

All the more reason...

I think the DS will rule for 1.5 years, then PSP will eventually take over.
