You're arguing with a person that has the username RadioHead about what kind of music is good? Don't get me wrong, I don't like (the band) Radio Head, but I don't think you're going to get very far.
And the fact is, U2 isn't that great. I can only listen to so many songs that make me want to go into a coma just to escape the bordom that is being induced by the song... or another song where bono yells the same thing over and over again for half of the chorus. It gets really old really fast. And don't give me any crap about how the lyrics are so meaningful. People also say that Led Zeppelin lyrics are meaningful (they're not) but at least those songs sound good.
And don't worry Sajn, I know what you're going through. U2 has released maybe 3 albums in the time that you have been alive, and in a desperate attempt to seem sophisticated to all of your peers that are busy listening to Simple Plan and Good Charlotte, you decided to start worshiping U2. It's not all bad news though, it'll pass in time, and once you graduate high school and you're not trying to impress anyone (hopefully) maybe you'll start liking music that actually has something to it. I used to feel this way about Led Zeppelin. I used to talk without end about how much I loved Zeppelin, until I realized that I don't like their music that much... It'll happen. Just give it time.
The great part about good musicians is you don't feel like an idiot for talking about them. Can you honestly say to someone that you like a band with a man who calls himself "bono" in it? Honestly... If I'm standing around telling someone what kind of music I like (which I wouldn't waste my time because most idiots don't listen to any band that doesn't spend half of its money at hot topic, and the other half in the makeup aisle of k mart), but regardless, if I'm standing around telling them about what kind of music I like, then I can simply refer to a guitarist as Tony Iommi, or Slash (which is a nickname, granted, but god damn, at least it sounds cool), or I can say Angus Young or Steve Vai. It's really simple and fun!
The worst trend to ever come about is liking something that is supposed to be obscure in a vain effort to make yourself look sophisticated.
It's like all of the wanna be film buffs around my college that deny liking anything made after the year 1990 because all contemporary film "sucks." Yeah right. I'm not impressed by the fact that you only like things that were created before you were born. The fact is, before you were born everyone was so hopped up on drugs that if they're still making music or film today it sucks badly because in yet another vain effort, they have attempted to clean up their image because while it was once admirable to be rebellious and law breaking, now we have to look up to our favorite musicians as they are "role models."
This isn't really going anywhere, and it's basically been a pretty meaningless rant about how much I hate where pop culture is going, and where it has been for the past 6 years or so (that I can remember). Flame me. I've probably earned it.
