Oh no, they aren't going to drill the barren moonscape of Alaska are they??? Think of the poor rocks...Anyways, people should be happy, we drill Alaskan Oil, we don't rely on the MIddle East and fight our wars for oil. Its win win.

Wednesday to approve oil drilling in an Alaska wildlife refuge, a major victory for President Bush

How can they call that victory? I call it sick and twisted.

No, they aren't drilling in the barren moonscape of Alaska, you'll be happy to know that your rocks are safe. Instead they are drilling in the useless wildlife refuge, where hundreds and hundreds of fluffy cute animals live. I'm just glad the rocks are okay.

Only a small fraction of the oil was middle-eastern to begin with. Besides, a big part of the north-western states still rely on Montreal-West to refine petrolium, and that's still being dependant on a foreign country.

Problem is, this isn't going to make a huge dent for very long. It may lower gas prices in 5 years from whatever they will be to what they are now, but this oil will run out too.

What we should be doing is spending this money on researching viable alternatives to oil. Hybrid vehicles are a start, but we need more. Hydrogen as of right now is not really viable. Neither is ethanol, but ethanol or bio-diesel could be one of the best alternatives if we discovered how to produce it at a lower energy cost. As it is, ethanol, bio-diesel, and hydrogen cost more energy to produce than is derived form them. The only way they're currently surviving is through government stipends and financial backing from energy-concious folks.

BUT SAJN!!! THINK OF THE ALASKAN SEALS!!! THE WALRUS!!!! WHAT SHALL WE EVER DO WITHOUT THEM!!!

So let's see...people are pissed off at high gas prices. Either Bush can take oil from Iraq, and then "WAR FOR OIL OMG!!". Or, he could take it from Alaska, where we may have to extract wildlife from a barren landscape, and get some more oil, lower our prices.

So they do something good for the American economy, and you down them because they have a different agenda? Granted, I don't agree with it. But still, he's not destroying all of the Alaskan habitat--just a bit of it for the greater good. Jesus, if you want animals to be kept so well preserved, go back to the Amish way of living--oh wait, you'd have to milk cows, and that hurts them, or something. Not to mention, think of the poor workhorses!

We're humans, using animals (as any Christian would almost indefinitely have to agree) is a right given to us by God. If you don't believe in Christianity, fine, believe what you want. But for the most part, to say that we don't have the right to use animals is wrong if you're a christian, and I know a great many of you that have posted are.

Now don't miscontrue me and think I said that we can do whatever we want with them. We can do it for the greater good. And this really is for the greater good. We don't have the right to abuse or torture animals. That's just ****ed up.

*waits for someone to point out, quite erroneously, that oil is not necessary*

What's redneck about drilling for oil and not caring about animals?

And Flexor, I'd like you to explain the science in if we drill Alaska, the world will somehow implode and die? Or that drilling in Alaska will somehow start a chain reaction between angry walrus and baby sea lions that will attack the humans and Earth will end in World War III?

You can poor cooking oil in any diesel engine, and it'll run, albeit it kind of chokes on it.

However, it's HELLUVA illegal because it's TAX EVASION!

Also, Hemp seed oil would also make GREAT Bio-Diesel. Hemp grows EVERYWHERE like crazy.. because it's a weed. However, the HIPPIES ruined that one for us...

I think many people are blowing this out of proportion. Let's remember today's technology with extracting oil. The government isn't going to allow burning down the landscape and blasting animals out of their homes. There aren't going to be thousands of industrial sites on every mile of Alaskan turf.

You care for a cow that you milk, you care for a horse on your farm, you kick a seal out of it's home for oil....Totally different things.

Can you cite biblical support?

The wildlife refuge was set aside to protect the animals. What's the point of having refuges if we are going to tear them up anyway? Let's just open Yellowstone up for logging while we are at it.

Besides, it's not even that good of a solution. I've heard reports that the extra oil won't have that much of an impact or significantly affect our reliance on foreign oil.

I don't necessarily approve of the "sky is falling" attitude, but this certainly doesn't please me. If it makes me a "hippy," then whatever.

Oh shut your piehole. We're caring for the animals, just relocating them.

And it's better for the economy in the next few years (which is something we REALLY need) than it'll be for 'Bush's pocket'. I'd like to see evidence he will make one red cent off of this deal. Back up your claims man.

PS--Wuss, I'm not a fan of the bible, but in it there's many passages (esp in Exodus I believe) that outline what animals were created for.

I don't really think it's just going to be a little oil rig with a small crew slowly gathering oil, from this quote below, it sounds like they want to suck all the oil out of Alaska. All 10.4 billion barrels from all 1.5 million acres

Quote:
Nevertheless, the Senate made clear by Wednesday's vote that a majority now supports tapping what is believed to be 10.4 billions or more of barrels of oil within the refuge's 1.5 million-acre coastal plain

Can I prove that Bush is a hick and has the IQ of a peanut? No. But it's pretty damn obvious. The man can't speak english for god sakes. Bush is one of, if not the WORST president we have ever had. You have to be blind or close too it if you can't see that he's a lieing cheating S.O.B. George W. Bush and Dick Cheney practically drool everytime they hear the words oil. I mean no matter how you look at it, Bush IS getting money from places he shouldn't be getting money.

... You arent caring for an animal in a refuge if you are moving it out of the refuge to drill for oil.

OH NOS We're drilling a VERY VERY small portion of something the size of South Carolina.

Oil, last checked, was $56.10 per barrel. Gas is ~$2.30 again here in San Diego. It's only going to go higher. Meanwhile we're trying to alliviate our dependency on people who really don't like us a lot.

SAJN, please calm down. You are making your side look bad. It's hard to take your arguments seriously when you are ranting and raving. Thus, those who agree with you become guilty by association.

You are not debating, only frothing at the mouth.
