I've got a question - I hate seeing movies with rape scenes in them, did this movie have any? If not, I'm going to go watch it tonight. Thanks in advance.
2005-04-02, 1:49 PM #42
No, there are no actual rape scenes.
2005-04-02, 2:12 PM #43
There's nothing wrong with not wanting to see nudity in a movie, regardless of your gender, sexual preference, and age.
Moo.

Wow. Wow. Wow. This is one of the best movies I've ever seen, seriously.

The over the top Noir style and over the top violence came together really well, especially during Marv's part, where he just kills everything, especially the part where he jumps THROUGH the windshield of that car... amazing.

I also loved the IRA mercenaries, and Manute's nazi hitman...

Okay, is it implied then? What is the deal?

Rape is mentioned in one or two scenes, but nothing actually happens.

And there is talk of molestation, but you do not see any of it, nor do you see a victim who was molested.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

I second this. Saw it last night in a packed theater with my best friend, at 11pm. Really loved, can't wait for it to come out on DVD, might have to go see it again before it leaves the theater.

I really liked how it switched from one story to the next and then kind of came together in the end.

I had a word battle today with my friends, citing the "innumerable opinions of Star Wars forum-goers" to the benefit of Sin City.

They still think it sucked.

I want to see it now.

Was a good movie, very violent, though.

Five gets you 10 that they were expecting some modern, dirty "street gangs vs. the cops" movie and were sorely disappointed and unwilling to part from their expectations.

Wait so it's over the top violence in the Kill Bill kind of way? If that's the case, then I guess it shouldn't be too bad.
2005-04-03, 7:17 PM #55
I loved it!!! :D I liked the way they did the violence in that movie. I don't like a lot of gore, but it was filmed in a way that didn't make it gory....or at least I thought. Also, has anyone noticed that Elijah Wood has been in roles lately where he's either a creep or just plain creepy!

Sin City was fantastic. I loved the look of the film, it just felt like a comic book came to life. I also loved the noir feel to it, they don't make movies like that anymore.

Was seriously effin' awesome. I saw it at our new jumbo deluxe theater in lynnwood. Has gigantimous screens and stuff, really neat.

Anyways, that was the best portrayal of a comic book in cinema I've ever seen. Anyone who thought it was over the top has obviously never read a comic book.

People also complained about a hard plotline to follow. Don't expect it to all fall into place at the end, because it won't. It's purposefully done the way it was so if your puny little brain can't handle it then don't see it.

How? He shot his partner in the back. Granted, he was only trying to protect him (prevent him from taking the fall for shooting the Senator's son, at least thats how I interpreted it) but still...

I thought it was simply 3 storylines that had some coincidental characters and settings.

Exactly. The #1 complaint that I've heard is how the story line doesn't make sense because the stories don't tie in very well. THEY AREN'T SUPPOSED TO, go suck on a doorknob if you can't figure that out stupid-heads!

Just don't go jumping on the bandwagon of people who jump off the bandwagon though. I hate people online who have the attitude that "anything anyone besides me might like ever sucks!"

After seeing this movie, and loving it, I have come to one conclusion. Alot of people are really really stupid. I mean REALLY stupid.

I'm going to narrow it down to movie reviewers in this instance. They literally are STUPID.

I plead my case:

Dwight. Played by Clive Owen. A "murderer with a new face."

Here's my beef. Reviewers have called him everything from a serial killer, to an ex-photojournalist, to a private eye. Ok, so what is the big problem? He's a "murderer." Why do we need to fill in the blanks? I saw the movie twice and I didn't hear anything about photojournalism or private investigation. This sort of thing really irritates me. It's always in the bad reviews too. Just look at the bad reviews of this movie and see how much misinformation is in them. It's really horrendous.

I just saw it tonight, and I really didn't think it was as good as I thought it'd be. I really don't like the 3 seperate plot-lines. I understand they're supposed to be seperate, but I don't think it's a good idea to have 3 totally seperate stories in one film with little (or no) connections.

Also... I was trying to make sense of the films use of color. At first I thought that it only showed color on characters that were going to die, but I'm not really sure about that anymore.

Also... can someone explain what Josh Hartnett had to do with anything?
2005-04-05, 11:33 PM #76
think of it as watching 3 different movies based on a familar entity (in this case sin city) with one of those movie shorts like at the start of the incrediables there was that stupid sheep thing. Josh Hartnett's part, if memory serves me represents the short "the customer is always right" from "the dame wore read" comic. It's not really a story.
2005-04-05, 11:40 PM #77
Well, it seemed like it was significant because he appeared both at the beginning and the end of the film in a similar scene...

And, like I said earlier, I still don't like the fact that it's 3 seperate stories.
2005-04-06, 6:09 AM #78
Josh Hartnett was a hitman wasn't he? I thought it was obvious.

And as far as the colors go, you'd have to ask Frank Miller, because they're that way in the graphic novels too.

The first scene is what got that movie made. Frank Miller hates Hollywood, and would not allow his movie to be made. The director filmed that scene and sent it to Miller, who liked it, and agreed to let Rodriguez direct the rest of the movie. If not for that scene, the movie never would have been made.

It also set up the theme of the film, it helped bring closure to the girl who betrayed them, and finally it was just another story from the comics.

Personally I find this no different than Pulp Fiction. The movie was composed of several different stories, which had little to nothing to do with the rest of the movie.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.
